Like it or not, when it comes to evaluating others, people tend to form an opinion within 30 seconds of meeting someone for the first time. Unfortunately, that resulting initial impression is generally extremely difficult to reverse should we start out on the wrong foot – which is why negative first impressions often lead to lost opportunities. Ironically, the best way to ensure you’ll make a great first impression is by focusing your attention on the other guy.
The bottom line: Although we may have multiple opportunities to impress others, we’re always better off when we get it right the first time.

… and there is a difference between the first meeting and the first impression. How many times have we met someone, only to find out a week later they don’t remember our face, name or even meeting us?
That’s good news and bad news. The good news is we often get a second chance to make a first impression.
But if you want to make a first impression, it’s good to remember that it takes an impression to make an impression. (If that makes any sense.)

30 seconds may even be a stretch…I’ve read that employers will get them impression within the first 10-15 seconds. It’s pretty amazing to think about so it’s extremely important to be conscious of that and be ready the moment you walk in the door.

Did you align this post with Fincon? I’m bummed I can’t be there but have a blast and make some great first impressions 🙂

most lost opportunuties are ascertained through hindsight but we need to remember also that not all opportunities are beneficial to the individual. so, what may be considered as a lost opportunity may in fact be better off staying lost.

I believe in the saying, “First impressions last.” So I always see to it that I make a good impression when meeting new people.

I agree, but sometimes it goes the other way around like ” first impressions are lifelong disappointments”. But it doesn’t apply here.

First impressions are so important. 1 you never get them back and 2.. you never get them back. The sucky part about me, when I meet someone for the first time. I’m a whole lot more reserved than I should be :/
