If You Want to Organize Your Life Then Focus on These 7 Tips

By Sabado Domingo

Being disorganized isn’t just annoying, it’s expensive and bad for your health. Over 90% of workers report they would get more done if they were organized.

If you spend a chunk of your day looking for something or can’t seem to remember important dates, you need some help getting back on track. We guarantee this guide on how to organize your life will give you the results you’re looking for!

Declutter Your World

Clutter can cause some of the biggest headaches for disorganized people. Getting rid of it can eliminate up to 40% of the work that needs to be done around the house.

Make decluttering a priority. Get rid of junk you don’t need and keep countertops clear and clean.

The Importance of Mise en Place

Have you ever heard the phrase “mise en place“? It’s a term used by chefs where they lay out all of the ingredients they need in the proper measurements so cooking goes smoothly.

You can practice this in your everyday life. It’s as easy as having your wallet and keys by the door instead of scattered around the home or laying out your work clothes the night before.

Keep a Calendar

Ever missed an appointment or a lunch date with a friend because you didn’t write it down? Being organized involves keeping track of important dates as well as having your items in order.

Get into the habit of using a planner or calendar. Use a fun calendar template to keep it interesting.

Be Honest

Once you decide you want to organize your life, you might get swept away in the momentum. You’ll add too many things to your plate, get disappointed when you can’t do them all, and then go back to your old ways.

Be honest with yourself and what you can accomplish. Start small and build towards bigger goals.

Write down your worst organizational habits. Write down a solution for each and tackle them one at a time.

Say No

Figuring out what you can handle from other people is a big piece of the puzzle, too. You can keep a calendar, but if it fills up with obligations you can’t fulfill, it defeats the purpose of having one.

Get comfortable saying no to others. There’s no need to be mean about it, just see if there’s an alternative solution to what they’re asking of you.

Create a System

Once you’ve made a few changes, creating systems will keep that momentum going. You’ll build new habits and continue meeting the goals you’ve set for yourself.

For example, throw away bills after you’ve paid them. Don’t let old mail build up in your home.

How to Organize Your Life the Right Way

Learning how to organize your life is a series of small steps that lead to large payoffs. So take things one day at a time and if you slip up, get back on track as quickly as possible.
