It’s no secret that most students are big spenders, but not everyone knows that many of them are already walking the straight and narrow.
Some students even know how to save money while using different services. For example, if you’re thinking: Someone should write my paper cheaply, then you can try to find a way to pay someone to write your paper without spending too much.
However, when you’re a college student there are lots of effective ways to save money. In fact, here are eight particularly common-sense tips for successful saving:
Avoid credit cards. Credit cards are very convenient, and the benefits are great for those who use them responsibly. However, it’s a known fact that for most people, people spend money twice a fast when using plastic instead of cash.
Keep an expense book. Spend a little cash a cheap notebook so you can write down all your smallest expenses can save a fortune in the long run. After all, it’s hard to control your spending if you don’t track where it’s going. Yes, it can be inconvenient, but it will eventually become a habit — and that will go a long way toward helping you save money.
Take advantage of sales, promotions, and discounts. If you’re the type of person with expensive tastes who believes in, say, always maintaining a stylish wardrobe, then the least you can do is be aware of when your favorite retailers offer discounts and promotions.
Take the bus for savings. Needless to say, it’s always cheaper than constantly driving — and refueling — your own car, or taking a taxi.
Find a cheap mobile connection. Choose a cheap mobile operator. Try to access the Internet only using wifi. You will pay only for calls and messages, and usually at the lowest cost.
Always bargain. You’d be surprised how many products and services you can buy for less — if you’re brave enough to haggle for a lower price.
Control entertainment costs. The student life is impossible without entertainment, but with a tight budget, it’s impossible to go to night clubs every week. That being said, there are ways to meet with friends that don’t require a lot of cash, such as hanging out at a coffee bar, or sharing lunch at an inexpensive diner.
Don’t overspend on gifts. All friends have birthdays, but gifts often become a large source of expenses. In order not to be taken by surprise, try choosing all of your gifts in advance; doing so can help you control costs. Another option is to grab a friend who can help you pitch in on a common gift.
The good news is, once you learn how to save money, you’ll feel much more financially independent throughout your life as a student. Following these simple tips are a great way to start, whether you’re a college student … or not.
