If you want a fancy kitchen for yourself and you’re not planning on selling soon, that’s fine. But if you think you’ll sell within the next five years, do a moderate kitchen reno.
For lower-budget upgrades, try painting, refacing the cabinets, and replacing the appliances. The kitchen will feel brand-new without the cost of a total reno. If you want a little more, replace the countertops, faucet, and sink as well.

I would add that your bathroom re-do should include a new comfort height toilet. I bought one that is also “self cleaning”. Both of these features are well worth the money. The higher toilet means it is easier to sit/stand with less pain from achy older bones. The self cleaning feature actually works! Now I just clean the outside 2x a week and the inner parts 1x a week and it mostly looks like I scrub it daily. An extra $70 or so VERY well spent.
