5 Job Changes to Consider in the New Year

By Sabado Domingo

Are you looking for a new job in the New Year? The end of the year is a great time to start thinking about your job and career prospects for the future. If you’re looking to make a change in the New Year, here are five job changes to consider.

1. Change Industries

Are you in the same industry as your current job? If so, look at the trends within that industry and consider if it’s expanding or contracting. While some industries are always growing, hiring is also influenced by demographics and geography. Maybe there isn’t an opening for you right now, but a change of industry might open up new opportunities.

Your current industry may be experiencing growth, but it’s possible that your company is not growing with the times. This could leave you with little room for advancement, making job satisfaction difficult to obtain. You can make a career change to real estate agent.

2. Change Companies

Unless you want to try moonlighting on the sly, finding a position at a new company will almost certainly require you to leave your existing company. If you’re hoping to switch careers, this may mean looking for a new industry as well.

Do you feel like you’ve outgrown your company? Do you find yourself struggling to obtain the skills or experience needed to move up in the organization? This could be because there aren’t any opportunities available, or it could mean that your management team isn’t committed to promoting from within.

3. Change Roles

Do you want to stay in the same industry but change companies? Do you want to switch from one position within your current company to another? These are all perfectly valid reasons for considering a role change.

What’s stopping you from switching positions at your company? You may need more education, training or experience to qualify for a different position. You may need to relocate to get the new role you want.

4. More Jobs Available Online

It’s not a surprise that more companies are looking to fill jobs online. The internet has become the preferred medium for job searches, and there are many sites to choose from. Sites such as LinkedIn are established and perfect. Even traditional companies have joined in to offer career opportunities online.

Many of these sites offer blogging, social media and other jobs that don’t exist in the physical office space. The next time you’re looking for a new position, you may want to begin your search on the web.

5. Technology Is Creating More Jobs and Replacing Others

Who doesn’t love technology? Computers, mobile devices and other gadgets make our lives easier, but they also have a downside. With each new device that hits the market, there are jobs lost. When automobiles first came out, blacksmiths were needed to fix horseshoes and repair wagons.

As we moved into the automobile age, farriers became obsolete. The same thing has happened with the advent of computers. The days are numbered for bookkeepers, cashiers, computer operators and other positions that used to be done by hand. If you’re considering a career in technology, you may want to think about how these changes will affect your position.

Conclusion

If you’re considering changing jobs, now is an ideal time to start looking around for opportunities. Once you know what kinds of changes are coming up, you’ll be better prepared to determine if they’ll affect your position and, if they do, how best to move forward.
