This is another post in an occasional series from my dear Aunt Doris, who passed away in 2015 at the age of 94.
When I was a kid in England I loved to play Cowboys & Indians. (Yes, we played that too.) I always wanted to be the Indian.
Well, I grew up, went through World War II and the Battle of Britain, married a GI, and came to the land of cowboys and Indians.
Years later my daughter-in-law, Chris, casually mentioned she was part Cherokee. Now I have two grandsons who are part “Indian.” Imagine my joy!
To this day I love watching Indian movies. My favorites are: Dances with Wolves; Last of the Mohicans (both of them); and Last of the Dogmen (I love that one!).
I don’t know how many times I’ve watched them over the years, but it’s a lot.
And although it’s not my favorite, I like Avatar too, which sort of has a cowboy & Indians theme.
Hey, I see Avatar is on HBO again tonight. Yea!
Love,
Aunt Doris

How about Little Big Man with Dustin Hoffman and Faye Dunaway? I haven’t watched that one in years (okay, decades) so I’m not sure how it’s held up over time.

What about “Jeremiah Johnson”? Great movie.

Wasn’t Chief Dan George also in the movie Little Big Man. A great actor and funny.
Shane and magnificent seven are my favorites and Chato’s Land.

Recordings of well-done old movies and TV series are practically the only thing we watch on our TV anymore. The latest is Downton Abbey, a product of Aunt Doris’ home country.
We used to subscribe to satellite TV for Tuner Classic movies, but grew sick of subsidizing the rotten stuff in some of the other channels in the mandatory “package”, so we cancelled the “service”.

My favorite is fake Pocahontas Warren…she speaks with forked tongue and buys votes with taxpayers money ???

I’ve recently been watching the old TV “Gunsmoke” episodes.
Quite a few of them involve the turmoil between white settlers and indian tribes as they were doomed to go from nomadic to reservation life.
The portrayal (costuming, indian conversation portrayal, etc.) is quite good, I think.
