While the average salary Americans say they need to be successful is high compared with what the average person is currently earning, the exact amount varies depending on your age. For millennials, it is $181,000; for Gen X, the figure is $212,000; and for Boomers it\u2019s $100,000. Then there\u2019s Gen Z &#8211; those adults between 18 and 27 &#8211; who say the annual salary <em><strong>they<\/strong><\/em> need to be successful is just a hair under $588,000. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/money\/markets\/the-salary-americans-say-they-need-to-feel-successful-at-every-age-it-s-over-500-000-for-gen-z\/ar-AA1uzFa0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">No, really<\/a>. Okay &#8230; to be fair, that may be true five years from now, but <em><strong>today?<\/strong><\/em> Hardly. On paper, owning a home is almost always more expensive than renting &#8211; about 14% more, on average, after factoring in expenses like insurance, taxes, and upkeep. But <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/owning-a-home-has-rarely-been-this-much-more-expensive-than-renting-155251484.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the homeownership premium<\/a> is now pushing 35% over renting &#8211; that\u2019s approaching an all-time high. Yikes! In the process, the <em>Indi<\/em> blog correctly observes that, &#8220;America has broken the stick and <a href=\"https:\/\/indi.ca\/how-china-starts-printing-usd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eaten the carrot<\/a>. So why would <em><strong>anyone<\/strong><\/em> buy into (the USD)? The currency looks shoddy. It\u2019s actually unclear what&#8217;s motivating anyone to follow them besides sheer inertia.\u201d Not surprisingly, since then, roughly 3 in every 4 nations have joined China\u2019s Belt and Road Initiative to ensure they have an alternative to the USD should the US ever turn on them. Consider it a monetary Get Out of Jail Free card for the prudent. That&#8217;s because, as Peter Schiff reminded us this week, &#8220;With soaring deficits, soaring debt, and interest payments that can only be made by issuing a debt-based currency on which even more interest will be due, the USD can only possibly be described as an elaborate nation-state level <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schiffgold.com\/commentaries\/with-or-without-tariffs-the-usd-is-a-ponzi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bankster Ponzi scheme<\/a>\u201d that&#8217;s doomed to failure. Yep. It\u2019s almost as if the world has seen this movie before. That&#8217;s why sound-money advocate Judy Shelton, has proposed a\u00a0 innovative plan for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usagold.com\/reviving-the-gold-standard-judy-sheltons-proposal-for-a-gold-convertible-treasury-bond\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reintroducing a gold standard<\/a> for the USD that calls for issuing a Treasury bond that would be convertible into gold after 50 years. In the past, such an idea would be immediately dismissed as being unnecessary because everybody trusted &#8220;the Almighty Dollar&#8221; &#8211; but those days are long gone. Well \u2026 the bond would act not only act as a vehicle for legitimate gold price discovery without <a href=\"https:\/\/internationalman.com\/articles\/david-stockman-on-how-to-cut-2-trillion-of-fat-muscle-and-bone-from-the-federal-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">making drastic changes<\/a> to the current monetary system, it would also effectively utilize the America&#8217;s substantial gold reserves via the issuance of extremely long-dated debt at lower interest rates. And, while not ideal, this new mechanism can be implemented without abolishing the Fed, thereby appeasing any misguided federalists in Congress who continue to insist that the US maintain its privately-owned central bank. Hey &#8230; that\u2019s quite a trick! Then again, so is this:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/413QFMiSBkI?&amp;controls=0&amp;start=472&amp;end=550\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Even if the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldtelegraph.com\/2024\/11\/25\/is-the-united-states-considering-a-gold-backed-treasury-instrument\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gold-backed T-bond<\/a> plan doesn\u2019t pan out, we should all be thankful that if the USD ever <em><strong>does<\/strong><\/em> shit the bed, America has the largest gold reserves in the world &#8211; or so it claims. The trouble is, there hasn\u2019t been a significant audit of the gold at Fort Knox, West Point, and the Denver Mint in more than 70 years. In the meantime, the Fed is furiously stocking up on lubricant for its printing presses. Despite the numerous accusations against the US Treasury that it actually has far less yellow metal than it claims, there is <em><strong>another<\/strong><\/em> plausible reason for the lack of an audit: America\u2019s gold is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/business\/414610-us-low-quality-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">very poor quality<\/a> (that is, low purity and odd weighting). And that\u2019s bad news for the USD. With that in mind, let&#8217;s close this week with some final words from Mr. Schiff, who notes that &#8220;no amount of economic tinkering \u2026 can reverse or solve America&#8217;s (debt) problem without a major implosion that will cause terrible pain across the economy. Gold is one way to protect yourself from the fallout.\u201d That&#8217;s why central banks still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/plus\/why-central-banks-buy-gold\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hold the yellow metal<\/a>, even though they also own a printing press. So if they do, shouldn&#8217;t you too?<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The average credit limit decreased in 42 of the 50 states year-over-year as of June 2024, with the average decrease ranging from a low of 0.3% to a high of 15%.
