Without further ado, let&#8217;s get right to this week&#8217;s commentary &#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Numbers don&#8217;t always tell the whole story.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>&#8211; Phillip Rivers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Credits and Debits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Did you see this? The largest producer of french fries in North America and a major supplier to fast-food chains, restaurants and grocery stores &#8211; Lamb Weston &#8211; was already having a bad year with shares of the company down 35% this year. And now the company says it is closing one of its production plants in Washington state and laying off nearly 400 employees in response to <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/mcdonald-customers-cutting-back-fries-102656451.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">slowing customer demand<\/a>. <em><strong>What?<\/strong><\/em> How is this even possible? After all, who doesn&#8217;t like french fries? For those not keeping score at home, the delinquent 10-year loan was for $85.5 million at an interest rate of 4.4% and was originated in June 2018. Now for the punchline: the towers have an 89% occupancy rate. And if you think <em><strong>that<\/strong><\/em> makes sense, perhaps you can also explain this:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RL7ucoGMl4c?controls=0&amp;start=135;end=165\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> The latest US jobs report was released last week and it shows that the private sector shed 458,000 jobs in September. On the other hand, government employment jumped by <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/september-jobs-report-crushes-expectations-as-us-economy-adds-254000-jobs-unemployment-rate-falls-to-41-123503927.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">918,000 positions<\/a>. The net gain in employment is nothing to crow about, as none of those \u201cjobs\u201d provide any real economic growth. And that&#8217;s assuming the numbers are even real, of course. Apparently, Spirit has been dealing with declining revenue and mounting losses to the tune of more than $3.3 billion. And now we all know how Spirit has been &#8220;able&#8221; to offer ridiculously cheap fares to various cities across America. It turns out that they <em><strong>couldn&#8217;t<\/strong><\/em> do it. To that aim, the IRS says that nearly 150,000 Americans with gambling winnings exceeding $15,000 between 2018 and 2020 failed to file tax returns, leaving more than $1.4 billion in gambling revenue for the government on the table. As a result, they\u2019re planning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/irs-vows-tax-enforcement-crackdown-after-audit-reveals-1-4-billion-in-unpaid-taxes-from-gambling-winnings-5734672\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a tax-enforcement crackdown<\/a> to recover their cash. Then again, wouldn\u2019t it be easier at this point to simply print it? It\u2019s also on pace to have its best year percentage-wise since 1979. Hey &#8230; does anybody remember when the US dollar (USD) was as good as gold? I\u2019ll bet <em><strong>somebody<\/strong><\/em> out there does &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kGT4-31irXg?controls=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> By the way, macro analyst Peter Schiff says that because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schiffgold.com\/interviews\/peter-schiff-golds-potential-is-wildly-untapped\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the US has no choice<\/a> but to conjure even more USDs out of thin air than it&#8217;s already doing, there is a distinct possibility that gold\u2019s price could increase by many multiples over the next couple of decades: &#8220;If gold can go from $20 an ounce to $2600 an ounce, it can go from $2600 to $26,000, or even (higher). One can only imagine how fast they will sell out in a real financial panic. Got gold?<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last week the Fed released data that found credit card debt hit a new record high of $1.3 trillion in August 2024.
