In a move reminiscent of Uber&#8217;s surge pricing, Wendy\u2019s CEO Kirk Tanner unveiled a strategy to introduce &#8220;dynamic pricing&#8221; across their chain, adjusting prices in real time. But fast-food fans online weren\u2019t having it. After a swift backlash, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/entertainment\/dining\/2024\/02\/28\/wendys-dynamic-pricing-internet-backlash\/72777769007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the company quickly retreated<\/a>, saying they have \u201cno plans\u201d to increase prices. Uh huh. After decades of constant price increases, forgive us if we don\u2019t believe him. The latest headline number was 275,000 &#8220;new jobs\u201d were created in February, which easily exceeded even the most bullish of expectations at 200,000. The mainstream media, as usual, ran with this figure &#8211; while yet again ignoring the massive 46% downward revision of the previous month\u2019s numbers that they gushed over when that January data was initially released. This is statistically dubious &#8211; as the number of revisions <em><strong>should<\/strong><\/em> be almost equal in both directions. Well \u2026 unless the data is being gamed, which it clearly is. I know, I know; I\u2019m not supposed to point that out. But here\u2019s a chart illustrating the statistical subterfuge anyway. It&#8217;s possible.\u00a0 After all, it&#8217;s no secret that our economy and asset valuations are now extremely dependent on debt. As such, the Fed has no choice but to <a href=\"https:\/\/realinvestmentadvice.com\/liquidity-problems-are-closer-than-you-think\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">keep liquidity flowing<\/a>. So look for the Fed to start lowering interest rates to provide liquidity &#8211; even though the inflation situation demands the opposite. The good news is, we\u2019re told that modern monetary theory (MMT) &#8211; a.k.a. the magic money tree &#8211; is a brilliant policy that is full of utopian societal benefits. Since the formula relies on unlimited \u2018printing&#8217; of money &#8230; you might bet that <a href=\"https:\/\/kunstler.com\/clusterfuck-nation\/twilight-of-the-blobs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">something will go wrong<\/a> with such a system &#8211; and it kind of looks like something IS about to go wrong in the system we\u2019ve built for distributing capital. \u2018Capital&#8217; (being) real wealth; hard things like good land, ore pockets, installed machinery, railroad tracks, and so on. Not figments, wishes, bets, and hallucinations.\u201d Although, to be fair, <em><strong>some<\/strong><\/em> people actually prefer hallucinations to realty:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FAaTp_WCREw?&amp;controls=0&amp;start=263&amp;end=572\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Not so coincidentally, sagacious commentator Franklin Sanders extolled his own take on capital this week, reminding us that \u201call wealth comes from the <a href=\"https:\/\/the-moneychanger.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">things men take out of the ground<\/a>. Everything else is simply <em><strong>processing<\/strong><\/em> the free bounty God gives us through mining or agriculture. Wealth does <em><strong>not<\/strong><\/em> begin with computers, AI, clever trading, merchandising, or factories. I\u2019ll hazard that not one economist out of 100 understands this; I know that government politicians and bureaucrats don\u2019t. If they did, they wouldn\u2019t show such scorn and contempt for farmers, miners and (others) who do the hard work of producing wealth.\u201d Amen to that. Fed Chair Jerome Powell said that interest rate cuts are likely &#8216;at some point&#8217; in 2024 but, as always, he wants &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/03\/06\/powell-reinforces-position-that-the-fed-is-not-ready-to-start-cutting-interest-rates.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to see a little more data<\/a>.&#8217;\u201d Not that it matters. Why is that, you ask? Last week, the Egyptian government has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/egypt-implements-massive-devaluation-currency-sending-pound-tumbling-popular-unrest-could\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">devalued its currency<\/a>, the Egyptian pound (EGP), by 38%. Of course, as central banks always do, the devaluation occurred overnight; so Egyptians who went to bed on Tuesday woke up on Wednesday 38% poorer because their paper wealth denominated in EGPs now purchases 38% less stuff than it did the day before. Yes, it&#8217;s highway robbery. Maybe somebody should call a cop &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RSAyz5c3JmM?si=3MPbkwUgevYNB3Bj&amp;controls=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Thanks to rampant inflation that was plaguing Egypt for years, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/03\/05\/world\/middleeast\/egypt-economic-crisis-gold-price.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the clamor for gold<\/a> (and silver) there was already surging. But after the overnight currency devaluation, the demand for precious metals &#8211; especially by the financially unprepared &#8211; skyrocketed. As a result, the gold or silver held by Egyptians actually saw its purchasing power <em><strong>increase<\/strong><\/em> the next day by approximately 70%, perfectly illustrating precious metal\u2019s role as wealth insurance &#8211; but only for those who are holding it <em><strong>before<\/strong><\/em> a monetary crisis strikes. As for those Egyptians who trusted the government and its central bank to protect the value of their currency.
