According to a new survey, the average American says they need to earn at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blog.personalcapital.com\/blog\/whitepapers\/2022-wealth-wellness-index\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$128,000 per year<\/a> to feel financially secure. Wow. When you consider that&#8217;s nearly double the median US household income, that six-figure income milestone is more than a bit problematic. The good news? Prior to 2020, when the car market was sane, auto loan delinquencies hovered around 2.5%; but today it\u2019s 8.7% in California, 10% in Texas, and 23% in Washington, DC &#8211; which means if we continue on the same trajectory, we could see <a href=\"https:\/\/mishtalk.com\/economics\/a-flood-of-repossessed-cars-poised-to-hit-the-used-car-market\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an 18% decline<\/a> in used car prices next year. Even more shocking: The auto market is so twisted now that cars are being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/politics\/story\/2022-07-25\/used-car-prices-are-way-up-and-the-repo-man-is-back\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">repoed and immediately resold<\/a> &#8211; for more than the balance of the previous loan. More specifically, the data showed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/u-s-gdp-down-0-9-rate-in-2q-271659011621?mod=newsviewer_click\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a 0.9% annualized decline<\/a> in economic growth for the three-month period that ended on June 30. If that&#8217;s got you depressed, you&#8217;ll be happy to know that my local realtor assured me that it&#8217;s <em><strong>still<\/strong><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/wolfstreet.com\/2022\/07\/26\/prices-of-new-houses-plunge-sales-crater-to-lockdown-level-inventories-pile-up-to-highest-since-2008\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the best time ever<\/a> to buy a new home! That definition is: A period of temporary economic decline during which trade and industrial activity are reduced, generally identified by a fall in GDP in two successive quarters. Well &#8230; at least it was until this week, when the White House proclaimed <em><strong>that<\/strong><\/em> definition to be officially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanthinker.com\/blog\/2022\/07\/biden_admin_planning_to_define_away_recession_if_gdp_declines_a_second_straight_quarter.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">null and void<\/a>. And so, just like that, an economic recession has been avoided. Hooray! Heck &#8230; that was so easy, I don&#8217;t see why the National Debt can&#8217;t be &#8220;eliminated&#8221; in short order too. Why? Because, according to Roubini, the current Fed policy of tightening its monetary policy into the face of a slowing US economy makes a hard landing inevitable. &#8220;We have no fiscal space,&#8221; he warned, &#8220;so the idea that this is going to be short and shallow is totally delusional.&#8221; Maybe so &#8211; but that doesn&#8217;t mean when space is tight, you can&#8217;t get creative &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pNg-SFOmIBw?controls=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> The only reason the US dollar is the best currency horse in <a href=\"https:\/\/kingworldnews.com\/central-planners-cant-hold-the-price-of-gold-down-much-longer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the international fiat glue factory<\/a> is because the Fed is in the middle of a deliberate rate-hiking campaign. And while the stock and bond markets can&#8217;t tolerate a rising rate environment for any sustained period of time, this isn&#8217;t the early 1980s when the debt-to-GDP ratio was a very manageable 30% &#8211; in fact, it&#8217;s more than 125% today. Don&#8217;t think Wall St. investors aren&#8217;t aware of this, which is why the markets have yet to capitulate. Here&#8217;s the irony: The Fed <em><strong>will<\/strong><\/em> keep raising rates until the markets decide to raise the white flag. Only then will the money spigots be turned back on.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-74023\" src=\"http:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/tweet-0-1024x731.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"539\" height=\"385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/tweet-0-1024x731.png 1024w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/tweet-0-300x214.png 300w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/tweet-0-768x548.png 768w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/tweet-0.png 1222w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 539px) 100vw, 539px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Of course, as economist Daniel Lacalle reminds us, whether it&#8217;s stock, bonds, real estate &#8211; or any other market &#8211; &#8220;when bubbles burst, interventionists never blame the artificial lowering of interest rates or printing money &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/app.hedgeye.com\/insights\/119797-why-artificially-low-rates-are-bad-for-you\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">they blame the market<\/a>.&#8221; Then again, losers always blame someone else when eager buyers suddenly become hard to find &#8211; <em><strong>especially<\/strong><\/em> when it comes to real estate &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/elrnAl6ygeM?controls=0&amp;start=5\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> While the Fed has become a popular punching bag for the failing monetary system, the inimitable MN Gordon notes that, ultimately, it&#8217;s &#8220;government that <a href=\"https:\/\/economicprism.com\/how-central-planners-sow-seeds-of-economic-ruin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sows the seeds of economic ruin<\/a>. Economies can&#8217;t grow when they&#8217;re choked by the weeds of regulations and confiscatory taxes, (or) where property rights aren&#8217;t protected by the rule of law. So, too, economies can&#8217;t effectively function when printing press money is sowed into wasteful activities by central planners. The fact is, any prosperity you&#8217;ve enjoyed isn&#8217;t because of government &#8211; it&#8217;s in spite of it.&#8221; Uh huh. With that in mind, fund manager Brian Hirschmann is warning that since 1991, all 18 governments that had deficits exceeding 11% of GDP and a debt-to-GDP ratio exceeding 110% defaulted within two years. As such, he says the Fed is in a pickle. Why? Because &#8220;raising rates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hcapital.llc\/_files\/ugd\/dc7287_34969db3b9ad428085405d2ad642fa8a.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">could trigger default<\/a> &#8211; but <em><strong>not<\/strong><\/em> raising them allows inflation get worse. He then sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn.<\/p>\n<p>When he finishes them, he comes back to the bar and orders three more.<\/p>\n<p>The bartender approaches and tells the cowboy, &#8220;You know, a mug goes flat after I draw it. It would taste better if you bought one at a time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The cowboy replies, &#8220;Well, you see, I have two brothers. One is in Arizona, the other is in Colorado. When we all left our home in Texas, we promised that we&#8217;d drink this way to remember the days when we drank together. So I&#8217;m drinking one beer for each of my brothers and one for myself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there.<\/p>\n<p>The cowboy becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way.<\/p>\n<p>He orders three mugs and drinks them in turn.<\/p>\n<p>One day, he comes in and only orders two mugs.<\/p>\n<p>All the regulars take notice and fall silent.<\/p>\n<p>When he comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, &#8220;I don&#8217;t want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your loss.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The cowboy looks quite puzzled for a moment, then a light dawns in his eyes and he laughs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Oh, no, everybody&#8217;s just fine,&#8221; he explains. &#8220;It&#8217;s just that my wife and I joined the Baptist Church and I had to quit drinking.
