And with that, let&#8217;s get right to this week&#8217;s commentary, shall we?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Americans need to worry about the value of their currency as much as they worry about the value of their investments.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>&#8212; Ray Dalio<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Believe it or not, Twinkies have an expiration date. Someday very soon, life&#8217;s little Twinkie gauge is going to go empty.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>&#8212; <em>Zombieland<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Credits and Debits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Did you see this? The S&amp;P 500 has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/08\/16\/sp-500-doubles-from-its-pandemic-bottom-marking-the-fastest-bull-market-rally-since-wwii.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rallied 100%<\/a> from its March 2020 COVID low of 2237. In fact, it took the market just 354 trading days to get there, which makes that the fastest bull-market doubling since World War II &#8212; as it should. Not only is inflation tame, but we&#8217;re also in the middle of a historic economic boom that was unleashed after small businesses across America were forced out of business by government officials.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Considering that, on a historical basis, bull markets typically take <a href=\"https:\/\/realinvestmentadvice.com\/fastest-bull-market-in-history-as-sp-500-doubles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a minimum of several years<\/a> to double from previous bottoms, this stock market rally has been impressive. But as financial analyst Lance Roberts points out, &#8220;the rally from the pandemic lows is less about the &#8216;economic recovery&#8217; and more about $120 billion a month of Fed liquidity.&#8221; No surprise there. Incredible. But as macro analyst Matthew Piepenburg points out, although the stock market continues to soar, &#8220;(US) consumer confidence recently saw the <a href=\"https:\/\/kingworldnews.com\/buckle-up-the-ultimate-bailout-will-usher-in-a-historic-bull-market-era-for-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seventh greatest collapse<\/a> <em><strong>in history<\/strong><\/em> &#8212; (so) who needs capitalism when central bank money printers determine prices?&#8221; Good point. In fact, I&#8217;d say it&#8217;s as useless as a parrot with a cell phone. Oh, wait &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1pONv1y5Yts?controls=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Of course, a real &#8216;recovery&#8217; requires organic growth, not the <a href=\"https:\/\/realinvestmentadvice.com\/the-elephant-they-dont-want-you-to-see\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">empty economic calories<\/a> and currency debasement that comes with unfettered money printing. Those empty calories are apparent when you consider that, over the last fifteen years, debt has grown at seven times the rate of tax receipts and nearly five times more than economic growth. For those who prefer pictures, here ya go:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/debt-vs-tax-receipts.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-68410\" src=\"http:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/debt-vs-tax-receipts.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"538\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/debt-vs-tax-receipts.png 624w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/debt-vs-tax-receipts-300x178.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 538px) 100vw, 538px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Then again, market analyst Michael Every notes that if &#8220;the Fed tapers QE, markets (could) tank; then it would have to quickly reverse policy &#8216;because markets&#8217; &#8212; but then everyone will see that central banking is just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/rabobank-market-has-become-springtime-hitler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a clown show<\/a> and that QE and asset inflation is all they have.&#8221; One can hope; but it&#8217;s doubtful. Ironically, most people are too focused on the &#8220;news&#8221; coming from their &#8220;smart&#8221; phones to notice. (click to enlarge)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Meanwhile, macroeconomist Alasdair Macleod is warning that, &#8220;a significant bear market in financial asset values is likely to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldmoney.com\/research\/goldmoney-insights\/the-dollar-s-debt-trap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">take down the US dollar<\/a> with it.&#8221; Heh. I know what you&#8217;re thinking, folks: When it comes to wild animal sightings on Wall Street, you have a much better chance of finding bigfoot than spotting a bear. Here&#8217;s why:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/tweet-28Aug2021-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-68449\" src=\"http:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/tweet-28Aug2021-2-1024x854.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"537\" height=\"448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/tweet-28Aug2021-2-1024x854.png 1024w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/tweet-28Aug2021-2-300x250.png 300w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/tweet-28Aug2021-2-768x641.png 768w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/tweet-28Aug2021-2.png 1172w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 537px) 100vw, 537px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> By the way, when the &#8216;Everything Bubble&#8217; finally <em><strong>does<\/strong><\/em> burst, the purchasing power of the US dollar &#8212; and all of the <em><strong>other<\/strong><\/em> fiat currencies &#8212; will take their final nose dive into the abyss because, as Macleod informs us, &#8220;the central banks&#8217; attempts to stop bank credit and deposits liquidating into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/beware-americas-soaring-public-debt-11624456010\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a black hole of currency destruction<\/a> can only accelerate.&#8221; In other words:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4F4qzPbcFiA?controls=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Of course, as macroeconomist Kristoffer Hansen notes, because the US dollar is the premier global reserve currency, &#8220;Americans can buy goods from the rest of the world <a href=\"https:\/\/mises.org\/wire\/bretton-woods-and-spoliation-europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">without offering anything real<\/a> in return. So they don&#8217;t have to produce; they can simply borrow.&#8221; And while this partly explains Americans&#8217; high living standard, Hansen rightly notes that the best benefits &#8220;accrue principally to the financial and political elites at the center of the system.&#8221; Imagine that.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> For his part, billionaire investor Jeffrey Gundlach says that most Americans &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cNhSJZGpo2E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">take a lot of things for granted<\/a> these days&#8221; despite the fact that &#8220;we&#8217;re looking at a (policy) roadmap that&#8217;s clearly headed towards the US dollar losing its reserve currency status.&#8221; Ya think? But this can only happen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/national-debt-borrowing-spending-interest-treasury-bonds-11628288311\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">after the piper is paid<\/a>. And he <em><strong>will<\/strong><\/em> be paid &#8212; whether or not they choose to return to a system based on honest money. Hey &#8230; I&#8217;ll drink to the that.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ncBWdEctdhE?start=4&amp;end=20&amp;autoplay=0 title=\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> So until the piper <em><strong>is<\/strong><\/em> paid, the Fed&#8217;s monetary system palliative care will continue. As macroeconomist Daniel Lacalle points out, &#8220;The US would go into a severe recession if the Fed wasn&#8217;t &#8216;doping&#8217; the economy.&#8221; As a result, &#8220;it&#8217;s faced with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dlacalle.com\/en\/central-banks-cannot-really-taper-with-this-slowdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the devil&#8217;s dilemma<\/a> created by its own policy. Either let inflation run and create a stagflation problem or scare the markets by reducing purchases. Despite this fact, gold is $140 <em><strong>less<\/strong><\/em> than it was selling for one year ago. So I went to a psychiatrist and told him: &#8220;I&#8217;ve got problems. Every time I go to bed I think there&#8217;s somebody under it. I&#8217;m scared. I think I&#8217;m going crazy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Just put yourself in my hands for one year,&#8221; said the psychiatrist. &#8220;Come talk to me three times a week and we should be able to get rid of those fears.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How much do you charge?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Three hundred dollars per visit,&#8221; replied the psychiatrist.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ll sleep on it,&#8221; I said.<\/p>\n<p>Six months later the psychiatrist met me on the street.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Why didn&#8217;t you come to see me about those fears you were having?&#8221; he asked.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Well &#8230; $300 a visit, three times a week for a year, is $46,800. A bartender cured me for $10. I was so happy to have saved all that money that I bought a new pickup truck.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Is that so?&#8221; the psychiatrist replied. Then, with a bit of an attitude, he said, &#8220;And how, may I ask, did that bartender cure you?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He told me to cut the legs off the bed.
