A pair of shoe laces cost more than a fashionable shoe store with 2000 pairs of shoes had cost before; to repair a broken window cost more than the whole house had formerly cost; a book, more than the printer&#8217;s shop with 100 presses.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>&#8212; Steven Zweig<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>How did you go bankrupt? Two ways. On Tuesday the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/11\/24\/935506414\/dow-surges-past-30-000-for-first-time-in-historic-milestone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dow topped 30,000<\/a> for the first time ever. Hooray!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> On the other hand, I&#8217;m sure the nearly six-million Americans who say they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-11-23\/millions-of-americans-expect-to-lose-their-homes-as-covid-rages\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">expect to face eviction<\/a> or foreclosure by the end of this year aren&#8217;t impressed by the stock market&#8217;s latest all-time high. For those of you counting at home, that&#8217;s one-third of the 17.8 million adults in households who are currently behind on rent or mortgage payments.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-63932\" src=\"http:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/stock-market-haverstein-tweet-1024x752.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"534\" height=\"392\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/stock-market-haverstein-tweet-1024x752.png 1024w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/stock-market-haverstein-tweet-300x220.png 300w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/stock-market-haverstein-tweet-768x564.png 768w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/stock-market-haverstein-tweet.png 1226w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 534px) 100vw, 534px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Meanwhile, a new study has found that taxpayers will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/student-loan-losses-seen-costing-u-s-more-than-400-billion-11605963600\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">footing the bill for $435 billion<\/a> of the $1.4 trillion in government-backed student loans this year &#8212; even if no additional loans are issued going forward. Unbelievable. I&#8217;m sure that all of the responsible people out there who already dutifully paid their student loans in full feel like complete suckers right about now &#8212; and I don&#8217;t blame you.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-63910\" src=\"http:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Student-Loan-Govt-Cost-1996-2020.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"533\" height=\"434\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Student-Loan-Govt-Cost-1996-2020.png 496w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Student-Loan-Govt-Cost-1996-2020-300x244.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> As Wolf Richter points out, &#8220;The expected loss of $435 billion is <a href=\"https:\/\/wolfstreet.com\/2020\/11\/22\/taxpayers-face-435-billion-in-student-loan-losses-already-baked-in-department-of-education-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">far larger than the rosy estimates<\/a> released previously, including the Congressional Budget Office&#8217;s (CBO) estimate in May 2019 of a loss of $31 billion, including administrative costs.&#8221; That&#8217;s not surprising. That&#8217;s the same CBO that is claiming the US deficits will average &#8220;just&#8221; $1.3 trillion per year through 2030. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/publication\/56542\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">No, really<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> On a related note, eight central banks are expected to add liquidity equivalent to, on average, 0.66% of annual GDP during each and every month in 2021. According to Morgan Stanley&#8217;s chief strategist, Matthew Hornbach, &#8220;We&#8217;ve never seen such a rapid global liquidity injection.&#8221; Ya think? I guess if there&#8217;s any good news here, it&#8217;s that the Fed is working hard to ensure the US dollar remains on pace to end the latest toilet paper shortage:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">21% of all US Dollars were printed in 2020. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wFcRxPxN9G\">https:\/\/t.co\/wFcRxPxN9G<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sven Henrich (@NorthmanTrader) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NorthmanTrader\/status\/1331185892615139328?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 24, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> While the amount of freshly-printed currency that will be injected into the global economy next year is absolutely staggering, the Institute of International Finance says it&#8217;s only going to get worse; they see total global debt rising from $277 trillion at the end of this year to a monstrous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/surreal-debt-tsunami-iif-stunned-forecast-global-debt-hitting-360-trillion-ten-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$360 trillion by 2030<\/a> &#8212; that&#8217;s more than $85 trillion above current levels. Wow. I wonder if the CBO knows about this.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> This week macroeconomist Alasdair Macleod warned, with &#8220;mounting evidence of money beginning to flee bank accounts into stocks, commodities and even bitcoin, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldmoney.com\/research\/goldmoney-insights\/the-global-reset-scam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">nothing can now stop the collapse<\/a> of fiat currencies.&#8221; That&#8217;s including the dollar &#8230; one way or another:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QcbR1J_4ICg?controls=0&amp;start=20;end=105\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> For his part, legendary investor Bill Bonner warns that, &#8220;Inflation is one of the biggest threats we face over the next 10 years. If the record money supply expansion leaks into consumer prices, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rogueeconomics.com\/bill-bonner-diary\/what-typical-americans-can-learn-from-argentinas-inflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the social contract<\/a> &#8212; and civilization itself &#8212; will break down.&#8221; Wait &#8230; what? &#8220;<em><strong>If<\/strong><\/em>&#8221; it leaks into consumer prices? The dam has been leaking for a long <em><strong>long<\/strong><\/em> time, Mr. Bonner. And if you don&#8217;t believe me, check the Chapwood Index &#8212; or ask your personal assistant.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Thankfully, Mr. Macleod reminds us that there <em><strong>is<\/strong><\/em> a way out from the chaos of a hyperinflating currency. &#8220;The solution,&#8221; he says, &#8220;is to mobilize gold reserves to back and save their currencies.&#8221; Ah, yes &#8212; but that comes with a catch: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/1646318\/why-trump-and-judy-shelton-want-the-us-back-on-the-gold-standard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Governments (must) be reset<\/a> into a non-welfare minimalist role &#8212; which can only be achieved after the collapse of the current fiat system.&#8221; In other words: pain is coming. For everyone.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Because of her support of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Gold?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Gold<\/a> Standard, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/judyshel?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@judyshel<\/a> has been trashed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/media?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#media<\/a> &amp; mainstream economists. But, the attacks tell you more about Sheltons critics than Shelton. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/bfjMRjur5s\">https:\/\/t.co\/bfjMRjur5s<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Prof. Steve Hanke (@steve_hanke) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/steve_hanke\/status\/1330186713709252608?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 21, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Then again, it won&#8217;t be enough for any new currency &#8212; or the failing dollar &#8212; to be &#8220;gold-backed.&#8221; They <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/topic\/gold-standard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">must be convertible<\/a> <strong><em>on demand<\/em><\/strong> for the yellow metal in the form of circulating gold coinage, as the US dollar was prior to 1933. Otherwise, the public will become so frustrated by the absence of real money and their rapidly-falling living standard that they&#8217;ll lose all faith in paper currency. Speaking of being frustrated &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8ZHoULa5DAo?controls=0&amp;start=0;end=67\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Of course, this assumes the US Treasury actually has the 8000 tons of gold it claims to have in vaults at Fort Knox, the Denver Mint, and West Point Depository. Now, I know what you&#8217;re thinking: <em>But, Len, there hasn&#8217;t been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bullionstar.com\/blogs\/koos-jansen\/audits-of-us-monetary-gold-severely-lack-credibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a legitimate audit of America&#8217;s gold reserves<\/a> in more than 70 years!<\/em> Relax, folks. After all, when it comes to matters of trust, the government is beyond reproach. (Psst. And I know this because the media <strong><em>told<\/em><\/strong> me so.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> By the way, for those of you who are considering bitcoin &#8212; which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/bitcoin-crosses-19000-level-2020-11-24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">climbed above $19,000<\/a> this week &#8212; be very careful. Bitcoin isn&#8217;t tangible wealth, unlike gold and silver &#8212; which are both actual money. As such, bitcoin is purely a speculative bet. Yes, that&#8217;s my story, folks &#8212; and I&#8217;m sticking to it.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> When it comes to my position on bitcoin, I&#8217;m in good company too. Well &#8230; at least I am if you believe Mexican retail tycoon, Hugo Salinas Price, who said this week that, &#8220;When the time comes that we have to have <em><strong>real money<\/strong><\/em> in hand during a life-or-death situation, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plata.com.mx\/enUS\/More\/402?idioma=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bitcoin is going to show us<\/a> how many fools populate the world.&#8221; Ouch. Hey &#8230; it&#8217;s okay to speculate. Just make sure you have a little wealth insurance before you do.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Electronic charge is not physical matter &#8211; it is a property of matter. The smallest unit of ordinary matter is the atom.
