A food bank in Richmond, Virginia, has been doling out more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wric.com\/news\/local-news\/chesterfield-county\/chesterfield-food-bank-averaging-a-million-meals-per-month-during-the-pandemic-triples-in-donations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one million meals<\/a> per month as the metro area continues to battle the self-inflicted economic carnage imposed in the name of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. The food bank says conditions are so bad that they&#8217;re now feeding three times more people than last year. I guess nobody told them that the stock market is still hovering near all-time highs.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Speaking of the stock market, asset manager Michael Pento is warning that there&#8217;s &#8220;a huge divergence&#8221; between the stock market and the real economy. With valuation in all equities now at <a href=\"https:\/\/usawatchdog.com\/election-chaos-means-market-chaos-michael-pento\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">180% of GDP<\/a>, Pento says, &#8220;Rod Serling couldn&#8217;t have imagined how crazy they&#8217;ve become.&#8221; Compare that to March 2000, when valuations were 140% of GDP; not coincidentally, the drunken NASDAQ plunged 85% shortly thereafter &#8212; kinda like this:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lI1YI2BpGG0?controls=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Then again, the stock market can stay irrational longer than most people can remain solvent. And although silver has had big gains this year &#8212; it&#8217;s up almost 50% year to date &#8212; that pales in comparison to more than a few stocks, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/investmentu.com\/tesla-tsla-stock-most-overvalued-market\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">absurdity known as Tesla<\/a>, which has rocketed 468% this year before retreating to roughly 393% today.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Ticking time bomb &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mBzlU8ivJb\">https:\/\/t.co\/mBzlU8ivJb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Len Penzo (@LenPenzo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LenPenzo\/status\/1305875516553965569?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 15, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> I know many dumbfounded silver proponents who can only shake their heads at Tesla&#8217;s dubious returns. In fact, for silver to match Tesla&#8217;s performance over the past year, it would have to hit $160 &#8212; give or take a few bucks. Don&#8217;t laugh; the white metal has seen similar triple-digit returns in the past. As precious metals analyst Jeff Clark notes, &#8220;Given the monetary crisis that&#8217;s still ahead, <a href=\"https:\/\/goldsilver.com\/blog\/is-silver-the-next-tesla\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">that&#8217;s not so far-fetched<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Mr. Clark has a point; despite its recent run-up, <a href=\"https:\/\/moneyweek.com\/investments\/commodities\/silver-and-other-precious-metals\/600966\/silver-has-almost-never-been-this\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">silver appears to be undervalued<\/a> by any reasonable measure. Especially when you consider that, at $27 today, silver is <em><strong>still<\/strong><\/em> 45% cheaper in nominal terms than it was 40 years ago &#8212; and 83% off the inflation-adjusted price &#8212; when it was selling for $50. Even so, silver has more than maintained its purchasing power; a silver US quarter minted in 1964 can still buy a gallon of gasoline. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ngccoin.com\/price-guide\/series-detail.aspx?MVDetailID=7&amp;Series=Washington-Quarter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">If not two<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> On a related note, macroeconomist Alasdair Macleod reminds us that &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldmoney.com\/research\/goldmoney-insights\/inflation-deflation-and-other-fallacies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the natural state<\/a> for a progressing economy isn&#8217;t one that sees continual inflation &#8212; which is a monetary policy objective (today) &#8212; but gradually <em><strong>falling<\/strong><\/em> prices, as experienced under the gold standard in the nineteenth century.&#8221; Uh huh. That&#8217;s because, over time, intrinsically worthless fiat currencies always lead to scenes like this:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-63083\" src=\"http:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Money-Mountain.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"533\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Money-Mountain.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Money-Mountain-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Money-Mountain-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> By the way, if we still had <a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/1646318\/why-trump-and-judy-shelton-want-the-us-back-on-the-gold-standard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an honest monetary system<\/a> backed by precious metals, an increase in the quantity of goods and services could only result in a decline in the general level of prices. More to the point: the purchasing power of long-term savings under a gold standard gradually <em><strong>increases<\/strong><\/em> over time &#8212; eliminating the need to speculate for <a href=\"https:\/\/tweakyourbiz.com\/business\/press-release\/trade-ideas-review-read-this-review-before-investing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">higher returns<\/a> in order to overcome the adverse effects of inflation. Imagine that.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Unfortunately, for now we&#8217;re stuck with the Fed&#8217;s fraudulent debt-based monetary system &#8212; which is why Fed Chair Jerome Powell told the world this week that, in an effort to &#8220;boost the economy,&#8221; the Fed will not only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/09\/16\/watch-fed-meeting-live-updates.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">continue its quest for higher inflation<\/a>, but they&#8217;re also maintaining their criminally-toxic zero-interest rate policy <em><strong>through 2023<\/strong><\/em>. Folks, if you think that makes absolutely <em><strong>zero<\/strong><\/em> sense, well &#8230; join the club. <strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">In solidarity with the Fed, I will be maintaining my policy of eating more until I&#8217;m taller.<\/p>\n<p>Hasn&#8217;t worked yet, but it&#8217;s just flat out true that on average, taller people eat more.<\/p>\n<p>The logic is basically flawless.<\/p>\n<p>Travis K (@coloradotravis) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/coloradotravis\/status\/1306294634369277952?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 16, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Of course, as <a href=\"https:\/\/the-moneychanger.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the great Franklin Sanders<\/a> observed after this week&#8217;s Fed presser, &#8220;Truly, a nation without a central bank is like a lamprey eel without an oboe. What would we do if we didn&#8217;t have Fed Head Criminal Jerry Powell to get on the television and tell us how much he is helping us by wrecking the economy and the dollar? For laughs we&#8217;d have to play Russian roulette with six bullets instead.&#8221; Don&#8217;t expect me to try and improve on that; I can&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> So why do governments prefer fiat currency? As Macleod wisely reminds us, free markets backed with honest money &#8220;discourage profligacy, indolence and needless borrowing; and allow the vast majority to provide for their own health and retirement, freeing the government from onerous welfare obligations.&#8221; Put another way: A self-reliant public that uses precious metals as money keeps <a href=\"https:\/\/mises.org\/wire\/why-government-hates-gold\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a heavy yoke on an empire&#8217;s power<\/a>.
