The truth is the insanity will continue until our corrupt debt-based monetary system is replaced with a new one based upon real wealth. Why? Because, as I&#8217;ve said here many times before: Corrupt money eventually leads to a corrupt society.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>&#8211; George Orwell<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>A lie would have no sense unless the truth were felt dangerous.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>&#8212; Alfred Adler<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Fidelity bought with money is overcome by money.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>&#8212; Agamemnon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Credits and Debits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Did you see this? It&#8217;s not a coincidence that blue-collar jobs have been going overseas ever since the dollar was officially decoupled from gold in 1971. And now the COVID crisis is putting <a href=\"https:\/\/adventuresincapitalism.com\/2020\/05\/24\/post-covid-capitalism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">white collar workers at risk<\/a> too, as many companies are beginning to ask: <em>If we know we can successfully run our business through Zoom meetings, why can&#8217;t we offshore the work for a fraction of the cost?<\/em> Don&#8217;t laugh; it&#8217;s coming.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> On the other hand, Fed governor James Bullard predicted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-05-26\/fed-s-bullard-sees-jobless-rate-returning-below-10-by-year-end\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the US economy will recover<\/a> from the highest unemployment since the Great Depression of the 1930s with a rebound so powerful that the jobless rate will be under 10% by year end. Yes, <em><strong>this<\/strong><\/em> year end; as in December 2020. Heh. I wonder if I can get some of what <em><strong>he&#8217;s<\/strong><\/em> been smokin&#8217;. Or maybe both of these guys &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nXjnagPujjE?controls=0&amp;start=13;end=114\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">&#65279;<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Needless to say, most of you who aren&#8217;t fortunate enough to have the same, uh, <em><strong>medicinal prescription<\/strong><\/em> as Mr. Bullard can probably see why it&#8217;s far more likely that the economy will be struggling with high unemployment for at least several years &#8212; which is especially bad news news for lenders, who are dealing with loan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/here-comes-wave-loan-defaults-hit-6-years-high\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">defaults that are now at a six year high<\/a>. (Psst. A year from now, the current default rate will be looked at as the good ol&#8217; days.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Meanwhile, retail landlords have been sending out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/retailers-reel-commercial-landlords-issue-thousands-default-notices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">thousands of default notices<\/a> to tenants, who in turn have experienced a collapse in foot traffic, sales and &#8212; most importantly &#8212; cash flow due to the COVID-19 economic shut down. In fact, only 25% of expected rent payments was received by landlords in April &#8212; that&#8217;s an estimated shortfall of $7.4 billion. And if you think <em><strong>that&#8217;s<\/strong><\/em> bad, just wait until the ripple effects get started.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Of course, retailers aren&#8217;t the <em><strong>only<\/strong><\/em> ones struggling to pay their bills at the moment. The United States&#8217; largest shopping center, the Mall of America in Minneapolis, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/05\/21\/the-mall-of-america-hasnt-paid-its-mortgage-in-two-months.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">missed <em><strong>two<\/strong><\/em> months of payments<\/a> on its $1.4 billion mortgage. Making matters worse, the lender is having trouble finding a repo man with a big enough flatbed.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> I&#8217;ve been saying for more than a month now that I believe the coronavirus will be used by the powers-that-be as a scapegoat for the imminent death of our debt-based monetary system. Which is why I was happy to see a fellow engineer, John Titus, come to the same conclusion in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=B8x_iV0hsEQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Part 5 of his excellent documentary series<\/a> on the criminal Fed entitled <em>Mafiacracy Now<\/em> &#8212; which is both enlightening <em><strong>and<\/strong><\/em> highly entertaining. Here&#8217;s a little taste to whet your appetite:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/B8x_iV0hsEQ?controls=0&amp;start=0;end=131\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> By the way, you can take it to the bank that the Fed is going all-in this time. They essentially admitted it when Fed Chair Jerome Powell recently told us that, &#8220;We&#8217;re not out of ammunition by a long shot. There&#8217;s really <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/coronavirus-live-updates\/2020\/05\/18\/857834283\/feds-powell-says-sharp-downturn-won-t-last\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">no limit to what we can do<\/a> with these lending programs to support the economy, and we&#8217;re committed to doing everything we can as long as we need to.&#8221; You know what, Mr. Powell? That&#8217;s exactly what we&#8217;re afraid of.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> The great Franklin Sanders certainly heard Powell threaten us with more &#8220;support.&#8221; I know this because he said so in <a href=\"https:\/\/the-moneychanger.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">his always-terrific daily newsletter<\/a>. Mr. Sanders also left this particularly wise and pithy admonition: &#8220;Take this home: All of the central banks are trying to inflate their way out of the financial crisis &#8212; that is, solve the debt problem with more debt. Just like starting a fire with dynamite.&#8221; Makes sense. To a central banker.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> As asset manager Eric Peters notes, although the Fed doesn&#8217;t seem to realize it yet, the reality is we&#8217;ve finally reached the point where &#8220;Monetary policy has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/hedge-fund-cio-we-have-reached-point-where-entirety-future-prosperity-has-been-pulled\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pulled the entirety of future prosperity<\/a> to the present &#8212; and no matter how many monetary magic wands are waved, the real economy will remain unresponsive because monetary policy is now utterly impotent.&#8221; Unfortunately, that hasn&#8217;t stopped the Fed from continuing to screw the rest of us.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">can we get a fact check on this? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3lgQFdU0hC\">pic.twitter.com\/3lgQFdU0hC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>StockCats (@StockCats) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StockCats\/status\/1266387830533652481?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 29, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> For now, all of the funny money being created by the Fed continues to turn economic law on its head. The most recent example: Despite the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/worst-jobs-report-history-205-million-jobs-lost-unemployment-rate-hits-record-147\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">highest unemployment numbers ever<\/a>, the average US income <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-05-29\/u-s-consumer-spending-plunges-jobless-benefits-boost-incomes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">climbed an incredible 10.5%<\/a> in April &#8212; that&#8217;s the biggest gain ever &#8212; and it&#8217;s all thanks to &#8220;enhanced&#8221; unemployment benefits. No, really.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> So as a result of all this Fed &#8220;help&#8221; most people on the dole now have no incentive to work whatsoever. The good news is it appears as if the unlimited currency printing has finally resulted in the &#8220;utopia&#8221; its backers have been promising the rest of us for 100 years. The bad news is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/opinion\/articles\/2019-04-26\/capitalism-is-broken-because-of-central-banks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">monetary system is in a vegetative state<\/a> &#8212; and the politicians and central bankers look like they have no intention of pulling the plug until things get a lot worse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Question of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><code>[poll id=\"323\"]<\/code><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Week&#8217;s Poll Results<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Have you missed dining in restaurants during the COVID lockdown?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No (46%)<\/li>\n<li>Yes (36%)<\/li>\n<li>Meh (18%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More than 1700 Len Penzo dot Com readers responded to this week&#8217;s poll and it turns out that almost 2 in 3 of them aren&#8217;t itching to eat a restaurant meal.
