Unfortunately, despite the relative calm on Wall Street over the past several weeks, the worst is yet to come.<\/p>\n<p>Okay, let&#8217;s get started &#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>All the perplexities, confusions, and distress in America arise, not from defects in their constitution or confederation, not from want of honor or virtue, so much as from the downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit, and circulation.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>&#8212; John Adams<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Sooner or later everyone sits down to a banquet of consequences.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>&#8212; Robert Louis Stevenson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Credits and Debits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Did you see this? The departing 59-year old CEO of AT&amp;T is retiring with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/att-boss-retires-with-274000-a-month-for-life-2020-05-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an absurdly excessive pension<\/a> that will provide him with a lifetime guaranteed income of $274,000 &#8212; <em><strong>per month<\/strong><\/em>. Unbelievable. Considering that AT&amp;T&#8217;s stock price is 25% <em><strong>lower<\/strong><\/em> than the $39 it was when this guy became CEO in 2007, can you imagine what kind of pension he&#8217;d be collecting if the stock price had, say, doubled or tripled?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> To be fair, if you include reinvested dividends &#8212; although how many people actually do <em><strong>that?<\/strong><\/em> &#8212; total shareholder returns have added up to 55% over the AT&amp;T CEO&#8217;s 13-year career. For those of you counting at home, that works out to an average of 3.5% a year. I&#8217;m sure that makes the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/04\/22\/att-signals-layoffs-as-it-takes-430-million-coronavirus-hit-in-q1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">250,000 AT&amp;T employees potentially facing layoffs<\/a> feel a lot better.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Speaking of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2020\/may\/14\/unemployment-us-data-coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">laid off employees<\/a>, if history is any guide, the following graph strongly suggests that anyone who is expecting a rapid recovery in the US job market after the coronavirus hysteria finally subsides, should <del><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">probably<\/span><\/del> definitely think again.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_61078\" style=\"width: 542px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-61078\" class=\"wp-image-61078\" src=\"http:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Job-Loss-Recovery-After-Recession.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"532\" height=\"347\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Job-Loss-Recovery-After-Recession.jpg 650w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Job-Loss-Recovery-After-Recession-300x196.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 532px) 100vw, 532px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-61078\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">There can be no talk of American jobs returning to pre-crisis levels until the losses find a bottom &#8212; unfortunately, the slope of that red line doesn&#8217;t suggest that will be happening anytime soon.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Meanwhile, in an attempt to keep the corporate bond market from imploding, this week the Fed officially opened up yet another of its many so-called &#8220;special purpose vehicles&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/s\/spv.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SPV<\/a>) &#8212; this one to the tune of $750 billion for buying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/05\/12\/business\/dealbook\/fed-bond-etf.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">corporate bonds and ETFs<\/a>. Uh huh. Please &#8230; no questions. Besides, I think we&#8217;ve all seen this movie before &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Mb45tJhzmcI?rel=0&amp;controls=0&amp;showinfo=0;start=1;end=34\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Of course, as Wall Street on Parade observes, those &#8220;SPV garbage cans keep the bad debt off the Fed&#8217;s books. But miss not this epochal watershed: <a href=\"https:\/\/wallstreetonparade.com\/2020\/05\/blackrock-begins-buying-junk-bond-etfs-for-the-fed-today-its-already-at-work-for-the-central-bank-of-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Fed has nationalized credit and bond markets<\/a>, eliminating the pricing of credit risk in a pure central-planning socialist economy, all to bail out the 1% elite.&#8221; Imagine that.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Here&#8217;s more good news: In just three short months, as a percentage of GDP, the central banks for the 20 largest world economies have already <a href=\"https:\/\/goldsilver.com\/blog\/the-setup-for-a-long-and-deep-crisis-is-in-placeheres-how-im-preparing-financially\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">exceeded the quantitative easing (QE) total<\/a> issued over the three full <em><strong>years<\/strong><\/em> between 2009 and 2011. Oh, relax, you big worrywart &#8230; that exponential currency growth isn&#8217;t a bug &#8212; it&#8217;s a feature of our banker friends&#8217; debt-based monetary system.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> By the way, as this Deutsche Bank chart illustrates, now that the Fed has graced us with QE-infinity &#8212; and upwards of $3 trillion created out of thin air, distributed to both Wall and Main Streets in the past month &#8212; the conversation is now transitioning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/its-really-a-question-of-when-the-coronavirus-pandemic-is-about-to-spawn-a-surge-in-bankruptcies-experts-say-2020-04-02\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">from liquidity to solvency<\/a>. <em>(h\/t: JSMineset)<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_61079\" style=\"width: 541px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-61079\" class=\"wp-image-61079\" src=\"http:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/liquidity-to-solvency.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"531\" height=\"376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/liquidity-to-solvency.jpg 644w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/liquidity-to-solvency-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 531px) 100vw, 531px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-61079\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Patience, grasshopper. The full magnitude of this crisis is yet to come.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> There are many folks who believe the National Debt can be reduced if we only elect &#8220;the right&#8221; politicians &#8212; but that&#8217;s impossible as long as our current debt-based monetary system remains in place. Charles Hugh Smith gets it; he says, &#8220;The <a href=\"http:\/\/charleshughsmith.blogspot.com\/2020\/05\/the-fed-is-fueling-revolt-that-it.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dirty little secret<\/a> is that America&#8217;s economy implodes once debt stops expanding.&#8221; True.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> The trouble is, as Amanda Howard points out, &#8220;Rather than spurring real economic gains, the Fed&#8217;s QE program is supporting and further extending <a href=\"https:\/\/mises.org\/wire\/can-easy-money-save-stock-market-or-will-it-buy-stagnation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the bloated and fragile debt grid<\/a>, as well as generating exuberance in the stock market and real estate, (thereby) fueling the largest wealth gap since the 1920s.&#8221; Which is why nothing will change until the politicians wake up and agree to a monetary reset, unless &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> &#8230; the system forces the pols&#8217; hands first. After all, central bank currency printing and yield repression only works as long as the economy has the capacity to absorb more debt. However, the still-unfolding financial crisis suggests that America&#8217;s economic sponge is quickly <a href=\"https:\/\/goldswitzerland.com\/us-deficit-4t-debt-28t-where-is-the-money-coming-from\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">approaching its debt limit<\/a>, as most entities who are still willing to take on more debt can&#8217;t afford it, while those who <em><strong>can<\/strong><\/em> afford it, don&#8217;t want it.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Unfortunately for all of us, if a monetary reset isn&#8217;t implemented, we&#8217;ll remain stuck with what Ms. Howard calls &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-central-bank-that-ate-japan-11588026341\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a slow stagnation death<\/a> as the Fed eats the economy&#8221; characterized by: continued malinvestment and bailout-generated moral hazard. Sadly, it also means even <em><strong>more<\/strong><\/em> government growth that only benefits useless bureaucrats while stifling private sector business opportunities &#8212; oh, yeah &#8230; and your liberty too. Just in case you hadn&#8217;t already noticed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This is not the Onion or Babylon Bee.
