No, that would be going too far. But I do think we&#8217;re much safer and I hope that it will not be in our lifetimes &#8212; and I don&#8217;t believe it will.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>&#8212; Janet Yellen, Fed Chair, 27 June 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Credits and Debits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Don&#8217;t look now but, after 11 long years, the bull market in stocks is officially dead, with the fastest draw down from market-peak to bear-market in history, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/stocks-puke-pandemic-cycle-lows-us-financial-conditions-crash-most-lehman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">worst start to any year<\/a> since 2009. In fact, in the 15 trading days through this past Thursday, the S&amp;P plunged an astounding 27% from the all-time high it established in late February.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Overall, it was the market&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/us-equity-market-crashes-below-2007-highs-despite-trillions-global-intervention\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">worst week since 2008<\/a>, while the small caps&#8217; 20% crash is its worst since 1987 &#8212; and its three-week plunge of 30% is the worst ever. And the broadest measure of the US equity market &#8212; the NYSE Composite Index &#8212; ended the week <strong><em>below<\/em><\/strong> its 2007 highs &#8212; despite the biggest one-day spike on Friday in 12 years.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Of the Dow&#8217;s eight largest daily point losses, six have occurred since February 24, 2020. Wednesday&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_largest_daily_changes_in_the_Dow_Jones_Industrial_Average\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ranked number three<\/a>, down 1464.94 (-5.9%) and Thursday&#8217;s was number one, plunging 2352 (-10.0%). &#8220;Black Thursday&#8221; was also the Dow&#8217;s fourth largest percentage loss in history, right behind Black Monday on 19 October 1987, and 28 &amp; 29 October 1929.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> If you ask asset manager Sven Henrich, he&#8217;s warning that, &#8220;This is not 2000; this is not 2008 &#8212; this is <a href=\"https:\/\/northmantrader.com\/2020\/03\/08\/vix-shock\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an entirely different beast<\/a>. And its angry; very angry. These next few weeks, days &#8212; and even hours &#8212; may be absolutely critical.&#8221; If he&#8217;s right &#8212; and I strongly suspect he is &#8212; there will be plenty of scenes like <strong><em>this<\/em><\/strong> happening in the coming days and weeks:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Hhy7JUinlu0?controls=0&amp;start=1;end=540\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> The panic on Wall St. is palpable. JP Morgan is warning that they &#8220;see signs of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/jpm-credit-and-funding-markets-are-starting-crack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">emerging credit and funding stress<\/a>.&#8221; They also noted that if that stress is sustained over the coming weeks and months, then &#8220;credit channels might start amplifying the economic fallout from the COVID-19 crisis.&#8221; Or, as Zero Hedge put it: &#8220;In other words, if you think the equity plunge so far has been bad, just wait until the credit markets fully seize up.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> By the way, if you&#8217;re looking for an optimistic view to soothe your nerves, you won&#8217;t get it from asset manager Egon VonGreyerz. He, too, is warning that, &#8220;<em><strong>This is it<\/strong><\/em>; the world is now facing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/market-slump-just-beginning-covid-19-not-cause-its-catalyst\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the gravest economic and social downturn<\/a> in modern times. The era of money printing and unlimited credit driving asset prices to ever dizzier heights is over.&#8221; You&#8217;re probably right, Egon &#8212; just don&#8217;t tell that to the Fed.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> On Thursday the Fed announced a cumulative increase in their cash-injection programs to about <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/federal-reserve-announces-halftrillion-liquidity-operation-as-bond-market-churns-181357372.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$4 trillion total per month<\/a>, which seems to suggest that a too-big-to-fail bank failed behind the scenes. And now for the punchline: That massive injection by the Fed failed to stop the market carnage on Black Thursday. Uh oh.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Oh &#8230; and if you&#8217;re looking for some context on the Fed&#8217;s most recent attempt to save the markets &#8212; not to mention our fraudulent, bug-riddled and inherently-self-destructive, debt-based monetary system &#8212; this tweet sums it up perfectly:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Panic at the Fed. To put the panic into context $1.5 trln in repo operations is larger than QE1 and 2 and just a hair less than QE3&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Michael Lebowitz, CFA (@michaellebowitz) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/michaellebowitz\/status\/1238179960029921283?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 12, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Meanwhile, on Friday a closely-watched indicator of interbank dollar funding stress inexplicably soared above all prior crisis levels hit in the past decade &#8212; and back to levels last seen during the 2008 financial crisis. It&#8217;s yet another sign that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/something-breaking-fed-fails-ease-epic-dollar-shortage-fraois-goes-parabolic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Fed&#8217;s gargantuan liquidity injection on Thursday didn&#8217;t fix<\/a> whatever has broken behind the scenes. It also prompted this response from the governor for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Yh8Of-cXbMY?controls=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Of course, the Fed is now desperately trying to keep ahead of plunging bond yields. But, as Peter Schiff notes, after taking interest rate hedging costs into account, it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SSBeXv0837U\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">no longer makes sense<\/a> for foreign governments to buy US Treasuries because it overwhelms the pitiful yields now being offered by them, so why would foreign creditors accept these near-zero yields? And if they don&#8217;t, how will the US finance its debt? (Answer: By printing more dollars, of course!)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Here&#8217;s what the financial tea leaves are telling David Stockman: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/kingworldnews.com\/david-stockman-1000-point-dow-intraday-swings-is-a-warning-the-fantasy-is-coming-to-an-end\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The jig is up<\/a>. Thirty years of financial and economic fantasy is coming to an end. False economics, unsound money, rampant debt, and speculation is bringing down the entire system. The real disease we&#8217;re facing isn&#8217;t COVID-19 &#8212; it&#8217;s runaway financialization, driven by central banks since 1987.&#8221; Yes &#8230; although the late great George Carlin could have told you that:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/X29lF43mUlo?controls=0&amp;start=14;end=92\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> But wait; there&#8217;s more. As Jacob Hornberger notes, &#8220;The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fff.org\/2020\/03\/05\/end-the-fed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">never-ending cycle of monetary crises<\/a> and chaos shouldn&#8217;t surprise anyone. There are no short cuts to prosperity. Resorting to a central bank to &#8216;stabilize&#8217; or &#8216;boost&#8217; the economy through monetary manipulation is a fool&#8217;s errand.&#8221; And with the world facing a critical shortage of good collateral, no amount of additional liquidity can fix that. Well &#8230; without destroying the dollar.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> So how do we get out of this mess? Hornberger says ending the Fed is the only way we can return to a society based on real economic prosperity, capital accumulation and free trade because, &#8220;The Fed is a socialist institution that centrally plans the monetary affairs for millions of people. (But) it can&#8217;t be done &#8212; it&#8217;s an <a href=\"https:\/\/mises.org\/library\/how-paper-money-experiment-will-end\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">inherently defective system<\/a> that&#8217;s produced monetary crises and chaos since the Fed was established in 1913.&#8221; Truer words were never spoken. Now who&#8217;s going to pull the trigger?<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite the big day on Friday, the stock market had a horrible week. Here are some facts on the carnage:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>-9.4%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> The Nasdaq&#8217;s one-day return on what is now being called Black Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>-9.5%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Thursday&#8217;s return on the S&amp;P 500; its worst day since Black Monday in 1987.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>-9.99%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> The Black Thursday return on the Dow Jones Industrial Average. That was its biggest percentage decline since 1987.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>-18%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> The four-day decline in the S&amp;P between Monday and Thursday; that was the worst-ever four-day performance for the index.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>-17%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> The Dow&#8217;s four day-losses between Monday and Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>-7.0%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Gold&#8217;s four-day losses between Monday and Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>-48.5%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Bitcoin&#8217;s four-day losses between Monday and Thursday; that&#8217;s not how a so-called safe haven behaves.<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/stock-market-news-live-march-12-013620137.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yahoo!
