So let&#8217;s dig right in, shall we?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The problem with fiat money is that it rewards the minority who can handle money, but fools the generation that has worked and saved money.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong><span class=\"s1\"> &#8212; Adam Smith<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>When you see that trading is not done by consent, but by compulsion; when you see that in order to produce you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing; when you see money flowing into those who deal not in goods, but in favors; when you see that men get richer by graft and pull than by work, and your laws don&#8217;t protect you against them but protects them against you; when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice &#8212; then you know your society is doomed.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>&#8212; from Francisco&#8217;s money speech; Ayn Rand&#8217;s <em>Atlas Shrugged<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Credits and Debits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> This week Charles Hugh Smith lamented that America has been &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/charleshughsmith.blogspot.com\/2019\/11\/the-hollowing-out-of-america.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hollowed-out<\/a>; an economy of ever-greater financial wealth piling up in the hands of the few, while tens of millions of wage-earners can&#8217;t afford what was available to everyone in previous eras: to buy a modest family home and afford to have children.&#8221; And before you roll your eyes and tell Chuck to have another egg nog &#8212; you should know he&#8217;s absolutely correct.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> You know, once upon a time, the income gains for America&#8217;s middle-class were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-02-20\/why-1-hates-gold-standard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">so significant<\/a> that the wealth gap was actually <strong><em>narrowing<\/em><\/strong>. That&#8217;s because, for all but the final few years between 1930 and 1970, the bottom 90% of wage earners saw their incomes steadily <strong><em>increase<\/em><\/strong> and outpace inflation, while those for the top 1% gradually <em><strong>fell<\/strong><\/em>. It&#8217;s okay &#8230; I&#8217;ll wait while you go back and read that again.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Meanwhile, Minneapolis Fed governor Neel Kashkari suggested this week that &#8220;monetary policy can play the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-11-24\/can-the-fed-fight-inequality-kashkari-says-yes-hires-an-ally\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">redistributing role<\/a> once thought to be the preserve of elected officials.&#8221; Apparently, he&#8217;s unaware that the Fed&#8217;s monetary policies have been redistributing wealth from savers to borrowers for decades now. No thanks, Neel. You and your colleagues have done enough damage already.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> By the way, ever since the current wealth redistribution era from the middle class to the top 1% started 50 years ago, there has been an unprecedented <em><strong>increase<\/strong><\/em> in income growth for the wealthiest households, while inflation-adjusted income of the &#8220;Bottom 90%&#8221; has remained <em><strong>unchanged<\/strong><\/em>, at best &#8212; but you already knew that. As for <em><strong>what<\/strong><\/em> precipitated the decline of America&#8217;s middle class, well &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/mises.org\/wire\/today-1971-president-nixon-closes-gold-window\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">it was this<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7_Xw5tWsOQo?controls=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> The following graph shows just how quickly the tables turned after the dollar&#8217;s anchor to gold was, to quote President Richard Nixon, &#8220;temporarily&#8221; broken. Doing so unleashed the <a href=\"https:\/\/theglobepost.com\/2019\/10\/31\/grace-blakeley-financialization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">massive financialization of the US economy<\/a> that ultimately turned the previous income-growth paradigm on its head &#8212; killing the notion that, generally speaking, future generations should be financially better off than those who came before them:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_58021\" style=\"width: 541px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Income-Growth-Wage-Disparity-1917-2012.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58021\" class=\"wp-image-58021\" src=\"http:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Income-Growth-Wage-Disparity-1917-2012-1024x700.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"531\" height=\"363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Income-Growth-Wage-Disparity-1917-2012-1024x700.png 1024w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Income-Growth-Wage-Disparity-1917-2012-300x205.png 300w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Income-Growth-Wage-Disparity-1917-2012-768x525.png 768w, https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Income-Growth-Wage-Disparity-1917-2012.png 1072w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 531px) 100vw, 531px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-58021\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(click to enlarge)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> With that in mind, Deutschbank lists &#8220;wealth inequality&#8221; as its top risk for 2020. <em><strong>Why?<\/strong><\/em> As Zero Hedge points out, it&#8217;s &#8220;because there are two points in history when wealth was as unequally distributed; the last was just before the Great Depression. And the time before that? Right before the French revolution, when most of France&#8217;s &#8216;Top 1%&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/economics\/its-official-united-states-now-banana-republic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lost their heads<\/a>.&#8221; Hmm. I wonder if <em><strong>these<\/strong><\/em> people are aware of that:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3TGfwOPKJRE?controls=0&amp;start=0;end=30\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> As Bill Holter points out, before financialization hijacked the American economy, &#8220;people saved part of their earnings each year which in turn served as the &#8216;seed corn, water and fertilizer&#8217; that the banks lent out for new projects and industries. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsmineset.com\/2019\/11\/22\/price-and-value-are-two-very-different-things\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this is no longer the case<\/a>, as credit and cash are now created out of thin air and forced into the system just to hold it up and push prices higher.&#8221; In other words, the banks now make their own fertilizer.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Unfortunately, last week Saxo Bank&#8217;s Christopher Dembik admitted that central banks can never again allow stocks to drop: &#8220;We &#8212; and I mean mostly policymakers &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/saxo-bank-so-much-liquidity-has-been-injected-market-it-now-impossible-withdraw-it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">can&#8217;t afford the stock market to fall<\/a>, as it would lead to a contagion effect to the real economy. So much liquidity has been injected in the stock market, it&#8217;s now almost impossible to withdraw it.&#8221; <em><strong>Almost<\/strong><\/em> impossible? Mr. Dembik &#8230; it <em><strong>is<\/strong><\/em> impossible.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> And that, in a nutshell, is why last month the Fed launched its latest money printing campaign &#8212; mockingly known as &#8220;not QE&#8221; &#8212; despite the S&amp;P being at <em><strong>all-time highs<\/strong><\/em>. Simply put, now that the stock market <em><strong>is<\/strong><\/em> the economy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/you-better-believe-the-fed-is-doing-quantitative-easing-and-here-are-the-beneficiaries-2019-11-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Fed no longer has the stomach to risk <em><strong>any<\/strong><\/em> significant drop<\/a> in equities ever again. Period. Hey &#8230; speaking of signifcant drops:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G1q3FaF_Sk0?controls=0&amp;start=3;end=24\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Thanks to more than a decade of central bank interference in the form of QE, the only things that matter to the stock market now are the Fed and the computer algorithms that backstop US indices. As such, the vast majority of US stocks today aren&#8217;t an accurate reflection of their respective company&#8217;s true value; they&#8217;re only a price. Revenue doesn&#8217;t matter. Profits don&#8217;t matter. <a href=\"https:\/\/investmentresearchdynamics.com\/netflixs-business-model-is-headed-for-an-epic-fail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Debt doesn&#8217;t matter<\/a>. And, frankly, what they&#8217;re selling really doesn&#8217;t matter either.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Of course, QE is just one of many reasons why the world is <a href=\"https:\/\/alhambrapartners.com\/2019\/11\/21\/seriously-good-luck-dethroning-the-eurodollar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">slowly moving away from the dollar<\/a>. How slow, you ask? Well &#8230;at the current pace it will take at least a decade &#8212; if not more &#8212; for local currencies to overtake the buck naturally. On the other hand, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.libertynation.com\/will-the-global-de-dollarization-collapse-the-greenback\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a dollar crisis<\/a> &#8212; which is looking increasingly probable in the not-so-distant future &#8212; will definitely speed the process up.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> For his part, macroeconomist Alasdair Macleod believes that the dollar doesn&#8217;t have a lot of time left. &#8220;The world of fiat currencies is facing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldmoney.com\/research\/goldmoney-insights\/150-years-of-bank-credit-expansion-is-near-its-end\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">its last hurrah<\/a>,&#8221; he says. &#8220;Indeed, some of the more prescient central bankers appear concerned the system is running out of road, with the dollar as the world&#8217;s reserve currency no longer fit for this purpose.&#8221; One thing is certain: when the monetary reset comes, it will come with no warning. Seven in ten save them. You can put me among the 1 in 20 who always put them in the register penny dish. Somewhat curiously, 1 in 100 say they literally toss any pennies they receive in the trash. It&#8217;s almost understandable, and a sad testament to the sharply declining value of the once Almighty Dollar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to believe 1999 was 20 years ago, but it was!
