In the meantime, let&#8217;s get this show on the road so I can start mine &#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The Bank never &#8220;goes broke.&#8221; If the Bank runs out of money, the Banker may issue as much more as may be necessary by merely writing on any ordinary paper.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong> From the <em>Rules of Monopoly<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The last duty of a central banker is to tell the public the truth.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong> Alan Blinder, former Fed Vice Chairman <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Credits and Debits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Did you see this? Nearly 1 in 4 Americans say they&#8217;re constantly worried about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2019-05-28\/nearly-one-quarter-americans-worry-about-money-all-time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">not having enough money<\/a> to cover their household expenses &#8212; and roughly the same number said they&#8217;re only just making ends meet. I wonder how many of those people are having sleepless nights because they&#8217;re actually living above their means.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> In other news, the Global Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI), which covers consumer-, investment- and intermediate-goods, <a href=\"https:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/article\/4268433-global-manufacturing-pmi-just-shrank-first-time-7-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">contracted for the first time in seven years<\/a>. Dave Kranzler notes that &#8220;it has been <a href=\"http:\/\/investmentresearchdynamics.com\/the-economy-continues-to-deteriorate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">falling almost nonstop<\/a> since mid-2017&#8243; &#8212; the longest decline in its 20-year history. Yet, with the press constantly talking about a &#8220;booming economy,&#8221; that probably comes as a surprise to most people.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> You can bet bond guru, Jeffrey Gundlach, isn&#8217;t surprised. He recently reminded us that nominal GDP growth over the past five years would have been &#8220;very&#8221; negative without US public debt. He also claims that analysts and financial journalists don&#8217;t seem to understand that although GDP growth <strong><em>looks<\/em><\/strong> good, in reality it&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/us-growth-would-have-contracted-without-trillions-in-government-consumer-debt-gundlach-2019-5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">based exclusively on debt<\/a>.&#8221; Imagine that.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> For his part, this week Fed Chair Jerome Powell suggested more rate cuts are on the horizon. Powell also said that interest rates so close to zero &#8220;has become <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/powell-fed-act-appropriate-face-140007696.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the preeminent monetary policy challenge<\/a> of our time.&#8221; Ya <em><strong>think<\/strong><\/em>, Jay? He also said that during the next crisis, even more &#8220;&#8216;unconventional&#8217; &#8230; tools are likely to be needed.&#8221; Yes, because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/q\/quantitative-easing.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">quantitative easing<\/a>and negative real interest rates worked so well the last time.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Then again, as Alexander Trgiaux points out, Powell&#8217;s words were, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/goldsilver.com\/blog\/no-way-out-jerome-powell-admits-return-to-zirp-and-qe-are-inevitable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a remarkable moment of candor<\/a> for any Fed Chair. Now, with his incredible admission that the Fed is trapped (by) its own past policy mistakes, we&#8217;re staring down the barrel of a new reality with few options.&#8221; Of course, Wall St. loves it; at Friday&#8217;s closing bell, the Dow had its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/markets\/inside-the-dows-1200-point-weekly-gain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">biggest weekly point gain<\/a> <em><strong>ever<\/strong><\/em>. As they say, when the cat&#8217;s away &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/w7hWW6U5s_A?controls=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Meanwhile, Europe remains in an economic malaise despite years of negative <em><strong>nominal<\/strong><\/em> interest rates in many places. In fact, Italy is once again looking at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/aca3c80a-86ac-11e9-97ea-05ac2431f453\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a parallel currency proposal<\/a> is being revived in Italy as a way for the highly-indebted government to pay its debts &#8212; and <em><strong>that<\/strong><\/em> has European central bankers worried that Italy may use the new currency to facilitate its departure from the euro. I guess misery truly <em><strong>does<\/strong><\/em> love company.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> And there&#8217;s more bad news for Europe: The German Bundesbank has warned that it could face <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2019\/06\/04\/german-bundesbank-comes-clean-euro-default-risks-italys-parallel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">heavy losses<\/a> if Italy or another major country leaves the euro and defaults on debts to the European Central Bank system. Even worse, the International Monetary Fund says it would be hard to prevent a sovereign debt crisis in Italy from engulfing Spain and Portugal too.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> As you might expect, Russia and China aren&#8217;t waiting for either the Fed <em><strong>or<\/strong><\/em> the ECB to solve the world&#8217;s chronic financial woes, which is why they&#8217;re set to sign an agreement which would boost the use of their national currencies in bilateral and international trade in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2019-06-05\/russia-china-enter-national-currency-agreement-putin-touts-uprecedented\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an attempt to move away<\/a> from the rapidly failing dollar-denominated financial system.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Central bankers love to portray a steely confidence when in public, but behind the scenes it&#8217;s clearly a <em><strong>much<\/strong><\/em> different story. The world&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/op-ed\/461207-central-banks-buy-gold-dollar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">central banks are buying gold hand over fist<\/a>: 146 tons of gold in just the first five months of 2019, which is more than they bought in the preceding <em><strong>six<\/strong><\/em> years. The spending spree is especially odd considering the central bankers want you to believe <em><strong>this<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_HybyqjV9jQ?controls=0&amp;start=0;end=18\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> In the real world, capitalism&#8217;s success was based on people producing more than they consume and then investing the difference &#8212; the &#8220;capital&#8221; in capitalism. But the central bankers&#8217; growing reliance on negative interest rates to keep the debt-based monetary system alive goads people into consuming and going into debt instead of saving which, as Alex Moneton points out, &#8220;highlights <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sovereignman.com\/trends\/my-bank-in-denmark-just-offered-me-a-negative-rate-of-interest-to-borrow-money-25233\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">how broken the financial system really is<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Frankly, negative rates &#8212; as well as all the red ink, the wealth gap, and a growing hoard of zombie companies dotting the economic landscape &#8212; are only symptoms of a more sinister problem. I&#8217;ll let the always-astute MN Gordon point it out: &#8220;The capital defect of America&#8217;s contrived economy is the capital itself. Namely, <a href=\"https:\/\/economicprism.com\/the-ugly-end-of-globalization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">it&#8217;s fake<\/a>.&#8221; That&#8217;s right. The US dollar isn&#8217;t money at all &#8212; it&#8217;s debt!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Sven Henrich sees the writing on the wall: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2019-06-07\/game-over\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Game over<\/a>. The grand central bank experiment has ended in complete failure. We&#8217;re witnessing a historic unraveling. Every projection they made over the last 10 years has been wrong. Why place confidence in people who are staring at the ruins of the policies they unleashed on the world and are about to unleash again?&#8221; Why, indeed. Don&#8217;t do as the central banks <em><strong>say<\/strong><\/em>.
