The most pleasant is with women, the quickest is with gambling, but the surest is with technicians.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>&#8212; George Pompidou<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Credits and Debits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Despite being unable to repair and maintain the <em><strong>existing<\/strong><\/em> network of roads and highways, US states are continuing to build more of them anyway, which is creating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/18047\/share-of-major-public-roads-classified-as-being-in-poor-condition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new financial liabilities<\/a>. As it stands now, the US would have to spend roughly $250 billion annually to keep its existing infrastructure properly maintained <em><strong>and<\/strong><\/em> restore the current six-year backlog of roads in a poor condition. Yeah &#8230; I hear ya, folks: <em>Only six?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Perhaps all of the new roads being built is why Americans&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2019-05-28\/americans-havent-been-confident-current-economy-2000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">confidence in the US economy<\/a> is at its highest point in 20 years. It&#8217;s possible. But here&#8217;s the problem: Living standards have been slowly <strong><em>declining<\/em><\/strong> ever since the dollar&#8217;s anchor to gold was broken in 1971. Huh. Who says <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boiling_frog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boiling Frog Syndrome<\/a> isn&#8217;t real?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Ironically, Americans&#8217; growing consumer confidence also suggests they&#8217;re blissfully unaware that a middle class lifestyle is now 30% more expensive than it was 20 years ago. Well &#8230; not <em><strong>all<\/strong><\/em> Americans; at least not the 23% who say that paying for basic necessities such as rent, utilities and food is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/05\/23\/nearly-25-percent-of-americans-are-going-into-debt-trying-to-pay-for-necessities.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">biggest contributor to their credit card debt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> It&#8217;s scary to think that nearly a quarter of all Americans are going into debt paying for basic necessities 10 years into an economic recovery. But anyone who is paying attention to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forexlive.com\/news\/!\/treasury-yields-fall-further-as-risk-off-sentiment-intensifies-20190531\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rapidly-falling bond yields<\/a> can see they&#8217;re signaling that both the US and global economies are in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2019-05-28\/trader-bond-yields-signal-all-not-right-world\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a heap of trouble<\/a>. Then again, bond yields have been anemic since the Great Financial Crisis, which means there never really was a <em><strong>true<\/strong><\/em> recovery anyway.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> So &#8230; How low have bond yields fallen? Incredibly, in many cases, less than 0%. There are currently trillions of dollars of bonds in the world with negative yields. And until recently, negative yields were limited to relatively-safe bonds issued by governments and large corporations. This week, however, much riskier mortgage-backed bonds joined the party. At least, they did in the Netherlands. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dollarcollapse.com\/negative-yield-mortgage-backed-bonds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">No, really<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> But wait &#8230; it gets even crazier. Thanks to those mortgage-backed bonds, bankers in the Netherlands are now offering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/news\/economy-news\/bankers-stunned-as-negative-rates-sweep-across-danish-mortgages-1877812\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mortgages with negative rates<\/a>. That&#8217;s right; instead of collecting interest, the lenders are effectively issuing a monthly <em><strong>rebate<\/strong><\/em> to their mortgage holders. This begs the question: What&#8217;s the <em><strong>true<\/strong><\/em> value of fiat currency today if bankers are <em><strong>paying<\/strong><\/em> people to borrow it? (Psst. <a href=\"http:\/\/libertytree.ca\/quotes\/Voltaire.Quote.2BC6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Voltaire knows<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Meanwhile, the slowdown in global trade is putting pressure on the creation of US dollars &#8212; which is a big problem because the greenback is <em><strong>the<\/strong><\/em> lubricant for the economic engine better known as the global financial system. Without an ever-increasing supply of dollars, <a href=\"http:\/\/worldoutofwhack.com\/2019\/05\/24\/the-lubricant-is-not-working-anymore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">that engine is bound to seize up<\/a>, leaving the global economy and financial system vulnerable to tighter financial conditions. Hey &#8230; this guy gets it:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ij1yDpfZI8Q?controls=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Jim Rickards, author of <em>The Road to Ruin<\/em>, certainly sees the dollar-lubricant &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Idiot_light\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">idiot light<\/a>&#8221; flashing red on the world&#8217;s economic dashboard. He says, &#8220;Given the trillions in dollar-denominated emerging-market debt, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyreckoning.com\/trump-vs-the-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a full-scale foreign sovereign debt crisis<\/a> could be in the making if they can&#8217;t earn dollars from exports to pay their debts.&#8221; In other words, we need even <em><strong>more<\/strong><\/em> IOUs to &#8220;settle&#8221; existing IOUs &#8212; stat! Yes &#8230; welcome to Crazy Town.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Of course, as MN Gordon wisely observes, &#8220;The gripes of all workers of the world should be united not against capitalism, as promoted by Marx, but against <a href=\"https:\/\/economicprism.com\/workers-of-the-world-unite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the curse of fake money<\/a> and the governments that perpetuate it.&#8221; Fake money is a poor store of value because it&#8217;s debt; it&#8217;s also mathematically impossible to sustain because the international monetary system that supports it is a Ponzi scheme, otherwise known as <em><strong>this<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8NUmsSRVP8s?controls=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Unlike a precious metals-based monetary system, our debt-based system requires debt to grow exponentially, ad infinitum. Unfortunately, we&#8217;ve reached the point on the curve where the current system begins to self-destruct. Perhaps that&#8217;s why the President is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/nathanlewis\/2019\/05\/30\/why-judy-shelton-at-the-federal-reserve-would-help-keep-the-dollar-stable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">nominating Judy Shelton<\/a>, a gold standard advocate, as a Fed governor. Can Shelton save the current system? No; but unlike the current batch of Fed intellectuals, she actually knows how to <em><strong>fix<\/strong><\/em> the problem.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Insider Notes: More on the Folly of a Debt-Based Monetary System<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Hey! Please show him where the cow is when he gets here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And with that, the rancher departed.
