Even so, the winner may <em>not<\/em> be set for life because studies show that lottery winners are <a href=\"https:\/\/safehaven.com\/article\/45289\/Nearly-One-Third-Of-US-Lottery-Winners-Declare-Bankruptcy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more likely to declare bankruptcy<\/a> within five years than the average American. It&#8217;s true. In fact, nearly one-third of <em>all<\/em> lottery winners eventually end up declaring bankruptcy. Hmm. Why am I not surprised?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> If you think that&#8217;s amazing, check this out: Yet another study found that people who live next door to a lottery winner see <em>their own<\/em> risk of bankruptcy increase by 2.4%. <a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2731562\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">No, really<\/a>. Apparently, this is because lottery-winner lifestyle upgrades end up inducing their neighbors to keep up with the Joneses &#8230; eses.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Speaking of bankruptcies, a new report from investor research firm Moody&#8217;s confirms that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lmtonline.com\/business\/article\/More-retailers-are-going-bankrupt-than-ever-12838891.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bankruptcies in the retail sector<\/a> hit an all-time high during the first quarter of 2018. Sears and Claire&#8217;s are among nine retailers that defaulted on their debt during the first quarter, despite the healthy economy. Or should I say, &#8220;supposedly&#8221; healthy?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> I say &#8220;supposedly&#8221; because although stocks are trying to make another run toward new highs, and the economy is at, heh, &#8220;full employment,&#8221; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2018-04-18\/yield-curve-continues-collapse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">yield curve for US Treasuries<\/a> is falling at a rapid pace and will soon be inverted. And this week Fed governor John Williams admitted that &#8220;an inverted yield curve is a powerful recession signal.&#8221; Uh oh. Well &#8230; the bond market isn&#8217;t considered &#8220;the smart money&#8221; for nothing, folks.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> In other news, despite Venezuela&#8217;s abundance of natural resources, two decades of socialism has resulted in a nation that is now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goldtelegraph.com\/home-of-gold-and-famine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unable to provide enough food<\/a> for its citizens &#8212; proving yet again that socialism&#8217;s free-lunch mindset is an unsustainable proposition that can only lead to failure and misery. And you thought winning the lottery was risky.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Then again, even something as noble as trying to save just a small portion of your hard-earned money is riskier than ever these days &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UJ5NWSqKzoo?rel=0&amp;controls=0&amp;showinfo=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> For those who wonder why government pension systems are on the verge of collapse all over America, perhaps you should consider <a href=\"https:\/\/mobile.nytimes.com\/2018\/04\/14\/business\/pension-finance-oregon.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the case of Joseph Robertson<\/a>; he&#8217;s an eye surgeon who retired as head of the Oregon Health &amp; Science University last fall. The eye doctor also collects the state&#8217;s largest government pension: $76,111. Per month. I know. I just wonder if anybody in Oregon is going to make a spectacle of this.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Meanwhile, at $237 trillion, worldwide debt is now 327% of global GDP. It was less than $150 trillion just prior to the 2008 financial crisis. Even worse, if you include the $750 trillion of bank derivatives out there, then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2018-04-16\/global-debt-bubble-hits-new-all-time-high-one-quadrillion-reasons-buy-gold\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">total global debt is $1 quadrillion<\/a>. The good news is if Dr. Robertson&#8217;s pension has cost-of-living adjustments, I&#8217;m pretty sure he could single-handedly pay off every last penny of global debt in just a few short years. Okay, <em>almost<\/em> all of it.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> In an honest monetary system backed by precious metals, such insane levels of debt and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acting-man.com\/?p=52164\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">currency debauchery would be utterly impossible<\/a> to achieve. And although the US dollar is no longer anchored to gold, the yellow metal <em>should<\/em> act as a foolproof barometer that reliably indicates the greenback&#8217;s &#8212; or any other currency&#8217;s &#8212; true purchasing power at any given time.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> I say &#8220;should&#8221; because more virtual gold trades in a single day than the real physical stuff that&#8217;s actually mined in <em>an entire year<\/em> &#8212; that&#8217;s blatant proof that the true price of gold is being suppressed. Even worse, it&#8217;s a clear sign that our dollar-based monetary system is a total sham &#8212; which begs the question: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2018-04-15\/how-much-longer-can-american-empire-run-fake-money\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How much longer<\/a> can the US continue to run on fake money? Hey &#8230; I&#8217;m just askin&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"lede\">Kids aren&#8217;t getting <\/span>behind the wheel as much these days. But contrary to popular belief, its not just because smartphones and social media let them stay connected:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>71%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Percentage of high school seniors who have a drivers license; that&#8217;s the lowest percentage in decades.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>15%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Percentage of teens who cite being able to communicate online as a reason for not getting a license before 18.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>36%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Percentage of teens who say the main reason they&#8217;re not learning how to drive is the &#8220;overall cost.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>$350<\/strong><\/span><\/span> The average cost of private driving lessons.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>25%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Percentage of teens in households with incomes below $20,000 who get their license before 18.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>68%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Percentage of teens who admit to checking apps while driving.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>80%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Percentage of teens who consider app use while driving &#8220;not distracting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/teen-driving-numbers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wired<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Question of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><code>[poll id=\"211\"]<\/code><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Week&#8217;s Poll Result<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What is your primary credit card?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>VISA (46%)<\/li>\n<li>Master Card (21%)<\/li>\n<li>American Express (15%)<\/li>\n<li>I don&#8217;t have a credit card (12%)<\/li>\n<li>Something else. Of those who do, more than half use VISA as their primary card.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Useless News: Hired Help<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A successful rancher died and left everything to his devoted wife. She was a very good looking woman, and determined to keep the ranch, but knew very little about ranching, so she decided to place an ad in the newspaper for a ranch hand. Two men applied for the job.<\/p>\n<p>One was gay and the other a drunk. She thought long and hard about it, and when no one else applied, she decided to hire the gay guy, figuring it would be safer to have him around the house than the drunk. He proved to be a hard worker who put in long hours every day and knew a lot about ranching.<\/p>\n<p>For weeks, the two of them worked, and the ranch was doing very well. Then one day, the rancher&#8217;s widow said to the hired hand, &#8220;You have done a really good job and the ranch looks great. You should go into town and kick-up your heels.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The hired hand readily agreed and went into town one Saturday night. However, one o&#8217;clock came and he didn&#8217;t return. Two o&#8217;clock and no hired hand. He returned around two-thirty and found the rancher&#8217;s widow sitting by the fireplace.<\/p>\n<p>She quietly called him over to her. &#8220;Unbutton my blouse and take it off,&#8221; she said. Trembling, he did as she directed. &#8220;Now take off my boots.&#8221; He did so, slowly. &#8220;Now take off my socks.&#8221; He did. &#8220;Now take off my skirt.&#8221; He did. &#8220;Now take off my bra.&#8221; Again with trembling hands he did as he was told. &#8220;Now,&#8221; she said, &#8220;take off my panties.&#8221; He slowly pulled them down and off.
