I know.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Curiously, during the past 45 days, trading on the <a href=\"http:\/\/jlfmi.tumblr.com\/post\/150047086470\/stocks-trading-range-now-beyond-compare\" target=\"_blank\">Dow has been severely rangebound<\/a> to its tightest level in more than 100 years. Or maybe that&#8217;s <em>not<\/em> so curious. Right, Plunge Protection Team?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Yeah, yeah; I hear you &#8212; my tin foil hat is on <em>way<\/em> too tight. After all, we all know that our public servants in the US government would never ever <em>ever<\/em> lie or tolerate the manipulation of financial markets and official economic data:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RPipnhNzUpY?&amp;start=19&amp;end=44\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Another market curiosity is the fact that stocks and bonds have been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2016-09-07\/brutal-price-action-looms-stocks-bonds-correlation-warning-sign-flashes\" target=\"_blank\">moving in the same direction<\/a> for awhile now. And although that isn&#8217;t necessarily a sign of market manipulation, nor is it unprecedented, it does leave the financial markets more exposed to sudden economic shocks.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> But why should anyone worry? Especially when the American labor market is on fire! Yep. US officials reported that there are currently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2016-09-07\/job-openings-in-u-s-rise-to-record-jumping-most-in-six-months\" target=\"_blank\">5.8 million job openings<\/a> waiting to be filled &#8212; even if most of them aren&#8217;t higher-wage manufacturing jobs. Right? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uhiCFdWeQfA\" target=\"_blank\">Anyone?<\/a> Bueller?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Then again, those upbeat government job figures have me scratching my head. With so many open positions out there waiting to be filled it seems odd that the number of Americans who fell out of the labor force increased by 58,000 in the very same month anyway, bringing the <a href=\"http:\/\/freebeacon.com\/issues\/94391000-americans-not-participating-labor-force\/\" target=\"_blank\">overall total to 94.3 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Surely, <em>something<\/em> doesn&#8217;t add up. I mean, if the US economy is doing so well, then why are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2016\/09\/06\/492849471\/an-economic-mystery-why-are-men-leaving-the-workforce\" target=\"_blank\">one in six American men<\/a> between the ages of 25 and 54 still unemployed? That&#8217;s worse than during the Great Depression. Don&#8217;t those folks know there are 5.8 million jobs out there for the taking? It&#8217;s all so very strange.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Speaking of things that don&#8217;t add up, CNN is reporting that state pensions are currently facing a <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2016\/08\/24\/retirement\/state-pension-shortfall\/\" target=\"_blank\">$1 trillion shortfall<\/a>. And the municipal pension situation is even worse &#8212; they&#8217;re at least <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/Finance\/ChrisMarkowski\/retirement-reality-economy-savings\/2016\/08\/23\/id\/744834\/\" target=\"_blank\">$2 trillion short<\/a> at the moment. Hey, those shortfalls shouldn&#8217;t be any problem at all &#8212; as long as the fund managers find a way to earn annual double-digit returns for the next 20 years.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> On the other hand, it&#8217;s hard to imagine how public pensions can be in such dire straits when you&#8217;ve got, among other transgressions, many retired peace officers and firemen in California with <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/2014\/mar\/03\/local\/la-me-county-pensions-20120303\" target=\"_blank\">ridiculous annual six-figure payouts<\/a> who are making more money in retirement now than when they were working. What a scam.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Frankly, government retirees with gold-plated pensions should get <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2016-09-06\/california-court-rules-against-salary-spiking-which-pension-recipients-have-used-def\" target=\"_blank\">every last taxpayer-supplied penny<\/a> they&#8217;re entitled to. What&#8217;s that? No, I didn&#8217;t snicker; I was just, uh, clearing my throat.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Okay, okay &#8230; maybe I <em>did<\/em> snicker. So sue me. After all, our public servants shouldn&#8217;t be the only ones who can have a hearty laugh at others&#8217; expense. Hey &#8230; I&#8217;m just being transparent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Week&#8217;s Poll Result<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do you keep an extra refrigerator or freezer in your home?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Yes (51%)<\/li>\n<li>No (49%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More than 1300 people participated in last week&#8217;s poll and, I&#8217;ve got to admit, the results really surprised me: Slightly more than half of all the respondents said they keep an extra refrigerator and\/or freezer in their home. Wow! Really? When I originally posted that poll question I figured that number would be much much smaller.
