Then he dims the lights, sidles up close to the interviewer and whispers, &#8220;What do you need it to equal?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Credits and Debits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> I see the New York state lottery commissioners have approved longer Powerball odds. If they&#8217;re confirmed by the remaining stakeholders, then the United States may soon see its very first <a href=\"http:\/\/fivethirtyeight.com\/features\/new-powerball-odds-could-give-america-its-first-billion-dollar-jackpot\/\" target=\"_blank\">billion dollar jackpot<\/a> &#8212; and millions of additional suckers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Speaking of suckers &#8230; After peaking in mid-June, China&#8217;s stock markets are now crashing. The Shanghai Index lost 5.9% on Wednesday alone; it&#8217;s now more than 32% off its all-time high, while the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/cars\/2015\/07\/10\/china-falling-stock-market-gm-ford\/29949845\/\" target=\"_blank\">Shenzhen Index has plunged<\/a> nearly 40%.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> In a vain attempt to arrest the Chinese markets&#8217; inevitable return to economic reality, on Monday, China&#8217;s central bank began underwriting brokerages&#8217; margin lending businesses &#8212; in other words, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/chinas-central-bank-to-provide-liquidity-to-help-stabilize-stock-market-1436101360\" target=\"_blank\">effectively buying stocks<\/a>. Unfortunately, that didn&#8217;t work.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Still, something had to be done (aside from letting the markets heal themselves), so on Wednesday <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/chinese-central-bank-promises-credit-for-stock-trading\/312357751\/\" target=\"_blank\">China told state companies<\/a> and business executives to buy stock shares to help stem the uncontrolled decline in share prices. Of course, that didn&#8217;t work either.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> As the market carnage continued to spread, increasingly desperate Chinese bureaucrats also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.afr.com\/news\/world\/asia\/china-159-billion-state-pension-fund-told-dont-sell-caijing-report-20150706-gi68hu\" target=\"_blank\">banned the nation&#8217;s $159 billion state pension fund<\/a> from selling any of its stocks. I know. But hold on &#8230; it gets better:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> On Thursday, with the cascading stock market <em>still<\/em> in a terminal free fall, Chinese police began cracking down on dangerous financial outlaws such as &#8220;malicious short sellers&#8221; and even &#8212; gasp &#8212; rumor spreaders. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-07-09\/chinese-police-officially-launch-crackdown-stock-sellers-rumor-spreaders\" target=\"_blank\">No, really<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Needless to say, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-07-09\/china-soars-most-2009-after-government-threatens-sellers-arrest-global-stocks-surge\" target=\"_blank\">getting the cops involved worked<\/a> beautifully &#8212; at least temporarily. In fact, the Shanghai Composite Index ended Thursday with its biggest one-day increase since March 2009. I just hope the Fed isn&#8217;t taking notes.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Meanwhile, Greece continues to struggle with their own financial problems &#8212; namely: too much debt. This week, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/102816717\" target=\"_blank\">CNBC headline<\/a> read: &#8220;Euro, drachma, bitcoin? Greece&#8217;s currency options.&#8221; Um, did you catch the headline&#8217;s big omission?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Either CNBC needs a new headline writer, or they buy the snake oil sold by Keynesian &#8220;economists&#8221; who claim that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/articles\/forex\/10\/gold-the-other-currency.asp\" target=\"_blank\">the world&#8217;s ultimate currency<\/a> &#8212; gold &#8212; is merely a barbarous relic. Silver too. Heh. I suspect we&#8217;ll know the answer relatively soon.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Remember, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/paulroderickgregory\/2012\/03\/18\/note-to-krugman-greece-proves-keynesian-economics-wrong\/\" target=\"_blank\">absurd Keynesian economists<\/a> like the New York Times&#8217; Paul Krugman tell us with a straight face that the only way to save obviously-bankrupt countries like Greece is to, well &#8230; go deeper into debt. I know. But that&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/03\/12\/opinion\/krugman-what-greece-means.html?_r=0\">exactly what he suggested<\/a> in 2012. And Greece did. Oops.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Frankly, an increasing number of people have stopped buying what Keynesians are selling; instead, they&#8217;re choosing to protect themselves with precious metals. How many people, you ask? Well, enough to force the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-07-07\/us-mint-runs-out-silver-same-day-price-silver-plunges-2015-lows\" target=\"_blank\">US Mint to suspend sales<\/a> of Silver Eagles this week because it couldn&#8217;t meet the demand. Imagine that.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> By the way, on the same day that the US Mint was running out of silver bullion, the price of silver, incredibly, plunged to lows for the year. Who still thinks <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paulcraigroberts.org\/2015\/07\/08\/big-banks-using-derivatives-suppress-bullion-prices-paul-craig-roberts-dave-kranzler\/\" target=\"_blank\">our pathetically-corrupt markets<\/a> aren&#8217;t hopelessly broken?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Hey, the good news is those low prices present a golden opportunity to buy a little <a href=\"https:\/\/lenpenzo.com\/blog\/id16252-silver-and-gold-the-superheroes-of-wealth-preservation.html\" target=\"_blank\"> wealth protection<\/a> for a relative song. For now.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> One reason why the markets are broken is because of government intervention. What else could explain <a href=\"http:\/\/thenewsdoctors.com\/greece-evidence-of-plunge-protection-team-response-what-happens-next\/\" target=\"_blank\">the euro&#8217;s inconceivable rise<\/a> against the dollar on June 29th, immediately after talks between Greece and its creditors had completely collapsed?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> David Stockman claims that last week&#8217;s resounding &#8220;no&#8221; vote in Greece means the European Central Bank is, &#8220;suddenly <a href=\"http:\/\/davidstockmanscontracorner.com\/it-is-not-priced-in-stupid\/\" target=\"_blank\">on the ropes<\/a>.&#8221; We&#8217;ll see &#8212; but never underestimate the bankers&#8217; ability to kick the can a little further down the road.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Putting your chances of winning the lottery in perspective.
