Who wants to bet that most of those supporters receive subsidized premiums?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Speaking of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">government fusterclucks<\/a>, if I didn&#8217;t know any better, I&#8217;d say Uncle Sam is now &#8220;improving&#8221; the hamburger business too; after all, beef prices are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-06-12\/beef-prices-hit-record-30-past-two-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">30% higher<\/a> than they were just two short years ago.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> In case you&#8217;re wondering, ground beef prices have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cattlenetwork.com\/news\/markets\/bmc-ground-beef-prices-189-2000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">almost tripled<\/a> since 2000 &#8212; which, believe it or not, has a lot to do with the Fed&#8217;s long-standing zero-interest rate policy and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cobank.com\/Newsroom-Financials\/~\/media\/Files\/Searchable%20PDF%20Files\/Newsroom%20Financials\/Outlook\/Outlook%202012\/Outlook_10122.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">its effects on the cattle market<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> That &#8220;positive&#8221; job report trumpeted by the mainstream media last week isn&#8217;t fooling everybody. As the Burning Platform blog found, those who bother to dissect the government data will quickly discover that, in reality, the job market, well &#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theburningplatform.com\/2015\/06\/05\/table-9\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sucks<\/a>. Their words, not mine.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Unfortunately, we&#8217;ve been stuck in an economic hall of mirrors for more than six years now. For example, 75% of all new jobs in the US since December 2007 have gone to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-06-06\/illegal-immigrant-recovery-presenting-most-stunning-number-may-jobs-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">foreign-born workers<\/a>. How many were illegal immigrants, you ask? Well, the government isn&#8217;t sure.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> One thing is certain: Illegals probably aren&#8217;t taking a lot of <em>high-paying<\/em> positions from unemployed native-born Americans. That&#8217;s because almost <a href=\"http:\/\/davidstockmanscontracorner.com\/another-paint-by-the-numbers-friday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">half of all net new jobs<\/a> created in the US since 2008 have been waiters and bartenders. I know.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> I guess being a waiter or bartender ain&#8217;t all bad &#8212; especially if you have a lot of customers like pro golfer Phil Mickelson; he recently stopped at a neighborhood lemonade stand, bought a $1 glass from the kids &#8230; and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/content\/stories\/local\/2015\/06\/06\/0606-lemonade-stand-attracts-famous-client.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">left a $99 tip<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Oh, sure; it would be nice to believe we have a healthy post-recession economy supported by lots of high-paying skilled jobs that develop products designed to improve living standards &#8212; but it&#8217;s actually built on low-wage services indirectly supported by trillions in <a href=\"http:\/\/demonocracy.info\/infographics\/usa\/federal_reserve-qe3\/money_printing-2012-2013.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">faux-wealth<\/a> from a printing press.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Charles Hugh Smith certainly isn&#8217;t fooled. As he astutely points out: <em>&#8220;If your BS detector isn&#8217;t shrieking, <a href=\"http:\/\/charleshughsmith.blogspot.com\/2015\/06\/if-your-bs-detector-isnt-shrieking-its.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">it&#8217;s broken<\/a>. Wishing it was true doesn&#8217;t make it true &#8212; it makes you a chump who fell for the con.&#8221;<\/em> I ain&#8217;t no chump, Charles.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Then again, maybe I <em>am<\/em> a chump. Perhaps it <em>is<\/em> normal when shares of Jicheng Umbrella Holdings rise <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-06-08\/when-it-rains-it-pours-shares-chinese-umbrella-manufacturer-rise-2700\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">more than 2681%<\/a> &#8212; in four short months. After all, that&#8217;s an annualized return of <em>only<\/em> 5,615,152%. Eat your heart out, Apple.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Naturally, that news got one commenter to rightly ask: <em>&#8220;How many umbrellas does this company need to sell to justify its 5 million percent annualized return?&#8221;<\/em> Answer: probably not enough.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> And if you think faux-wealth only applies to overpriced Chinese stocks, think again. It also applies to a good chunk of US household &#8220;wealth&#8221; &#8212; now at an all-time <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Business\/wireStory\/us-household-wealth-reaches-high-85-trillion-31695375\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">high of $85 trillion<\/a>. At least the stuff on paper.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> This week, Bill Holter passed along the story of <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.milesfranklin.com\/zimbabwe-to-make-you-think\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one retired couple<\/a> from Zimbabwe &#8212; with roughly 500,000 Zimbabwe dollars in the bank &#8212; who went from being set for life to not being able to afford a loaf of bread in two days. And <em>that<\/em>, folks, is the cruel illusion of paper wealth.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> The truth is, history proves that all fiat money &#8212; including the US dollar &#8212; will eventually meet the same fate as <a href=\"http:\/\/qz.com\/426925\/i-was-a-quadrillionaire-in-zimbabwe-but-could-barely-afford-to-buy-bread\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zimbabwe&#8217;s debauched currency<\/a>. Hey, don&#8217;t be a chump; the greenback is clearly heading there too.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> In fact, now that Zimbabwe has stolen all of its citizens&#8217; wealth via the printing press, they&#8217;re offering a final exchange rate of <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/currency-dies-zimbabweans-5-175-quadrillion-local-dollars-153844646.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$1 for every 35 quadrillion<\/a> local bucks &#8212; but only until September. So don&#8217;t wait.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s no coincidence that America&#8217;s decline really accelerated after it began sending the bulk of its high-paying manufacturing jobs overseas:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>20%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> US GDP that was attributable to its manufacturing sector in 1980.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>12%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> US GDP that is attributable to its manufacturing sector today.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>1994<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Year that the North American Free Trade Agreement took effect.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>2,000,000<\/strong><\/span><\/span> US manufacturing jobs lost since 2007.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>15,000<\/strong><\/span><\/span> US manufacturing houses that have been closed over the past eight years.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>12<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Cents on the dollar that the average Chinese worker gets compared to his American counterpart.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>67%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Displaced manufacturing workers in 2012 who found a new job, but at a lower wage.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>20%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> The typical wage reduction for displaced US manufacturing workers in 2012.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>1975<\/strong><\/span><\/span> The last year that the US registered a trade surplus with the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p><em>Sources: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/102744933\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNBC<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/lori-wallach\/nafta-at-20-one-million-u_b_4550207.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Huffington Post<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Question of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><code>[poll id=\"65\"]<\/code><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Week&#8217;s Poll Result<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How much cash do you have set aside for a financial emergency?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More than $4000 (65%)<\/li>\n<li>Less than $100 (11%)<\/li>\n<li>$1000 to $1999 (10%)<\/li>\n<li>$2000 to $4000 (6%)<\/li>\n<li>$500 to $999 (5%)<\/li>\n<li>$100 to $499 (3%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More than 400 people chimed in to answer last week&#8217;s question. While a recent Fed study found that 47% of Americans had less than $400 of emergency savings on hand, the results of my unscientific poll had happier results, with 2 in 3 respondents saying that have more than $4000 on hand to handle a financial emergency. Even so, I&#8217;m sorry to see that 11% said they have less than $100 available, and almost 1 in 5 overall have less than $1000.
