Apparently, burger-flipping and saying, &#8220;Would you like fries with that?&#8221; requires more skill than it used to.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Speaking of restaurant employees who don&#8217;t deserve a raise, how about the marketing genius who used a drone to deliver fresh asparagus directly from the farm to a haughty five-star Dutch restaurant this week &#8212; only to see said drone <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibtimes.co.uk\/drone-delivering-asparagus-dutch-restaurant-crashes-bursts-into-flames-1496333\" target=\"_blank\">crash and burn<\/a> before getting there. Literally.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> And you thought last year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/gadgets-and-tech\/news\/tgi-friday-drone-crashes-into-womans-face-and-cuts-it-open-in-restaurant-9911934.html\" target=\"_blank\">TGI Friday holiday drone<\/a> &#8212; complete with mistletoe and an onboard kiss-cam &#8212; was a bad idea. Actually, it was a <em>really<\/em> bad idea. That drone careened into a lady&#8217;s face and cut her nose. Um, can you say &#8230; &#8220;free chocolate lava cake&#8221;? (I know I can!)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> If you&#8217;re a so-called &#8220;high-earner,&#8221; the odds are you&#8217;d probably appreciate some free lava cake right now too. A new survey found that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/102590222\" target=\"_blank\">one in four<\/a> people who make at least $100,000 annually are living paycheck to paycheck. No, really. And don&#8217;t look at me.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Did you see this? Last month, the New York Times reported on a Florida woman who has withheld her mortgage payments for five years &#8212; but may soon <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/03\/30\/business\/foreclosure-to-home-free-as-5-year-clock-expires.html\" target=\"_blank\">get her home scot free<\/a> anyway. You responsible folks who dutifully pay your bills every month can thank those quirky statute of limitation laws. Or not.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Apparently, individuals aren&#8217;t the only ones who are struggling to pay the bills &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/investmentresearchdynamics.com\/an-avalanche-of-treasury-debt-hit-the-market-in-february\/\" target=\"_blank\">governments are too<\/a>; in February alone, the world&#8217;s central banks dipped into their rainy day funds by selling $57 billion of US Treasury bonds. Wow.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> You know the US is in trouble when hard-working people <a href=\"http:\/\/davidstockmanscontracorner.com\/how-obamacare-screwed-the-stuges\/\" target=\"_blank\">risk losing their home equity<\/a> and future social security benefits by maximizing their income today. Those who rely on Obamacare subsidies to cover its onerous insurance premiums now have to worry about that.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Liberty demands self-reliance and personal responsibility. Sadly, that&#8217;s not the majority mindset today; and Obamacare is just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cato.org\/blog\/nanny-state-doesnt-competition\" target=\"_blank\">another sad example<\/a> of how otherwise hard-working citizens lose their liberty when they demand the government should &#8220;take care&#8221; of them from cradle to grave.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> The good news is, because a growing number of healthy Americans are realizing they can avoid Obamacare&#8217;s premiums and wait until they&#8217;re sick or injured to take advantage of it, the healthcare law is now in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2015\/mar\/26\/susan-parnell-the-obamacare-death-spiral-may-have-\/\" target=\"_blank\">death spiral<\/a>. The bad news is, we&#8217;ll have to be patient.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> In other news, General Electric is getting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/price-of-ge-capital-sale-tax-breaks-1428970045\" target=\"_blank\">out of the lending business<\/a>; they&#8217;re selling their GE Capital unit even though it has been a giant tax shelter for them over the years. Hmmm. Why would they do that?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Bill Holter astutely wonders if GE sees the writing on the wall and the sale of its undisputed cash cow isn&#8217;t &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.milesfranklin.com\/the-other-4gs\" target=\"_blank\">calling a top<\/a> to the entire paper bubble now enveloping the world.&#8221; We&#8217;ll see, but that makes a lot of sense to me.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> One of the most obvious signs of the &#8220;paper bubble&#8221; is the perversely-low &#8212; if not outright negative &#8212; interest rates being offered today. Then again, Ben Bernanke says you can blame those on &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/blogs\/ben-bernanke\/posts\/2015\/04\/01-why-interest-rates-low-global-savings-glut\" target=\"_blank\">a global savings glut<\/a>&#8220;. I know. (Insert <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_Rav9ijyyZk\" target=\"_blank\">laugh track<\/a> here.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> David Stockman, who directed the US Office of Management and Budget in the 1980s, blames low interest rates on something else: <em>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/davidstockmanscontracorner.com\/none-dare-call-it-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\">Financial fraud<\/a> &#8212; $15 trillion of securities purchased by central banks with credit made from thin air, and tens of trillions more purchased by gamblers on equally sketchy repo credit.&#8221;<\/em> Yes, Mr. Stockman. Yes!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Finally &#8230; A Florida man was arrested last week after he allegedly sold deputies a bunch of &#8220;funny money&#8221; &#8212; on multiple occasions, no less. How did the authorities find this guy, you ask? How else? He posted an online Craigslist ad &#8230; for &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.floridatoday.com\/story\/news\/crime\/2015\/04\/13\/online-ad-leads-arrest-counterfeit-charges\/25704267\/\" target=\"_blank\">Legit Counterfeit $$<\/a>.&#8221; Heh.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> On the bright side, the alleged scofflaw may end up in prison for a few years &#8212; but, like any counterfeiter, he also has a promising future in central banking.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Question of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><code>[poll id=\"57\"]<\/code><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Week&#8217;s Poll Result<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Have you ever had a personalized automobile license plate?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No (81%)<\/li>\n<li>Yes, but not anymore. (15%)<\/li>\n<li>Yes, and I still do. (4%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More than 400 people answered this week&#8217;s survey question &#8212; and four out of five have never had a personalized license plate. I had one many years ago but, for me, the novelty wore off rather quickly &#8212; so I decided to save money and get rid of it. In California, annual renewal fees for vanity plates today can run upwards of $80. (In Canada, it&#8217;s 2.9%.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>16<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Percentage of cars in Virginia with vanity plates; that&#8217;s the most of any state.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>4.6<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Percentage of cars in Ontario with vanity plates; that&#8217;s the most of any Canadian province.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>50<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Texas&#8217; vanity plate penetration rank among all states; just 0.5% of all registered vehicles there have them.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>2<\/strong><\/span><\/span> New Hampshire&#8217;s vanity plate penetration rank.
