Some say that data is buttressed by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/crane-industry-activity-2015-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">improving crane market<\/a>, which typically signals an expanding economy.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> The growing number of cranes being ordered to support new construction isn&#8217;t the only indicator. The US Department of Labor claims that America&#8217;s unemployment rate is the lowest it&#8217;s been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tradingeconomics.com\/united-states\/unemployment-rate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in seven years<\/a>. Hooray!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Then there is consumer spending, which we were told ran at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2015\/01\/30\/us-usa-economy-idUSKBN0L30BC20150130\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a blistering 4.3%<\/a> pace in the fourth quarter of 2014 &#8212; that&#8217;s the fastest in more than eight years. Wow.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Here&#8217;s the thing: As David Stockman explains, the unemployment stats have to be taken with <a href=\"http:\/\/davidstockmanscontracorner.com\/jobs-friday-time-for-more-crud-from-washingtons-fudge-factories\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a heaping grain of salt<\/a> because they don&#8217;t even follow proper statistical protocols.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Clearly, something ain&#8217;t right. It&#8217;s hard to believe only 5.5% of the population is unemployed when more than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/big-government\/2015\/04\/03\/record-93175000-americans-not-in-the-labor-force\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">93 million Americans<\/a> age 16 or older aren&#8217;t in the labor force, while the labor participation rate is at its lowest level since 1978 &#8212; a time when far fewer women were working.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> I know what you&#8217;re thinking: No, the lower labor participation rate is not because of all the retiring Baby Boomers. Since the last recession, the only demographic group to show an increase in employment have been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-04-03\/no-country-young-workers-only-americans-55-and-older-found-jobs-march\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">people 55 and older<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> As for that glowing consumer spending figure I mentioned earlier, it&#8217;s at odds with data that shows <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bullionbullscanada.com\/us-commentary\/26586-us-retail-sector-begins-massive-collapse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">retail sales collapsing<\/a> during the same period. Hmmm.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Needless to say, the conflicting data has an ever-increasing number of people questioning the credibility of the official US government statistics. In fact, some are going a step further and calling them &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.alt-market.com\/articles\/2563-one-last-look-at-the-real-economy-before-it-implodes-part-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">utter garbage<\/a>&#8221; &#8212; if not <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sprottmoney.com\/news\/why-u-s-economic-statistics-get-more-and-more-absurd-jeff-nielson-sprott-money-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">outright absurd<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Speaking of absurd, a Houston man had his personalized &#8220;370H55V&#8221; license plate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/national\/texas-man-custom-license-plate-revoked-dmv-article-1.2179552\">revoked by the Texas DMV<\/a> because of a hidden &#8220;offensive&#8221; message. Are you as stumped as I was? Well &#8230; officials say the plate is offensive if it&#8217;s read <em>upside down<\/em>. Who drives upside down?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> The absurdity isn&#8217;t limited to the Lone Star State. Switzerland became the first country to offer 10-year bonds at <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.barrons.com\/incomeinvesting\/2015\/04\/08\/switzerland-sells-10-year-debt-with-negative-yield\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">negative interest rates<\/a>. That would be really funny if the implications weren&#8217;t so serious.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> If that ain&#8217;t bad enough, Mexico issued <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/switzerland-first-with-10-year-bond-at-negative-yield-1428489209\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a 100-year bond<\/a> denominated in euros. Unbelievable. I guess nobody in Mexico believes normal interest rates will ever return again &#8212; or at least not until 2115. What a Bizarro financial world.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Meanwhile, a statement from the US Treasury last week showed that the <a href=\"http:\/\/cnsnews.com\/news\/article\/terence-p-jeffrey\/21-days-treasury-says-debt-has-been-frozen-18112975000000\">National Debt had been frozen<\/a> at $18,112,975,000,000 for 21 straight days &#8212; that&#8217;s just $25 million below the current legal debt limit. Yeah, right. Just more accounting hocus pocus designed to obfuscate the financial truth.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Ironically, the only financial honesty last week came from Janet Yellen, who actually admitted that cash is &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-03-27\/santelli-stunned-janet-yellen-admits-cash-not-store-value\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not a convenient store of value<\/a>.&#8221; Yes, <em>that<\/em> Janet Yellen. By the way, the devil called &#8212; there are snowballs in hell now. Really big ones.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> If I didn&#8217;t know any better, I&#8217;d say Ms. Yellen sees the writing on the wall: that is, a <a href=\"http:\/\/usawatchdog.com\/were-going-to-step-on-a-mine-before-end-of-2015-james-turk\/\">currency crisis<\/a> is all but inevitable now. And if the US dollar&#8217;s days are numbered &#8212; so is Americans&#8217; standard of living.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Of course, it didn&#8217;t have to be this way, but the US&#8217;s inability to live within its means caused our creditors to lose faith in the dollar &#8212; as evidenced by China&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/usawatchdog.com\/were-going-to-step-on-a-mine-before-end-of-2015-james-turk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aggressive gold buying<\/a> since 2011. In case you can&#8217;t tell, I&#8217;ve lost faith too.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HsXV2wJRj7o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bill Holter<\/a> points out, with the recent establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the new BRICS bank, the Shanghai Gold Exchange, and an alternative clearing system designed to compete with America&#8217;s SWIFT model, <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.milesfranklin.com\/triggers-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a large part of the world is now prepared<\/a> to weather the financial storm that will hit everyone when the dollar dies. Are you?<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Question of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><code>[poll id=\"56\"]<\/code><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Week&#8217;s Poll Result<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What should be the maximum legal interest rate for credit cards?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There shouldn&#8217;t be a limit. (37%)<\/li>\n<li>10% (31%)<\/li>\n<li>15% (16%)<\/li>\n<li>20% (7%)<\/li>\n<li>5% or less (7%)<\/li>\n<li>25% or more (2%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More than 500 people chimed in to answer last week&#8217;s question and a strong plurality believe the credit card companies should be free to set their own rates. I agree; let the free market decide. Yes, doing so ensures there will always be predatory lenders out there &#8212; but that&#8217;s not a problem for those who understand the best protection from excessive interest rate charges is always personal responsibility and accountability.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We all have different definitions of happiness.
