It is, without a doubt, my favorite holiday of the year.<\/p>\n<p>This time we&#8217;re skipping the traditional turkey. Yep. We&#8217;ll be having ham instead.<\/p>\n<p>I blame it on me being lazy. Ham is easier to prepare and the cleanup is bit easier too. If you&#8217;re having something other than turkey this year &#8212; or have had something else in the past for Thanksgiving &#8212; let me know. I&#8217;d love to hear about it!<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Question of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><code>[poll id=\"35\"]<\/code><\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Week&#8217;s Poll Results<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How many jobs\/employers have you had during your lifetime?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More than 5 (61%)<\/li>\n<li>4 or 5 (19%)<\/li>\n<li>2 or 3 (13%)<\/li>\n<li>1 (5%)<\/li>\n<li>0 (2%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More than 300 people responded to last week&#8217;s question. I&#8217;ve collected paychecks from four companies during my lifetime: a grocery store, a media company, and two engineering firms. That&#8217;s it. The survey shows however, that most people have had more employers than me. In fact, more than three out of five of respondents have had at least six paying jobs during their lifetime. I figured I was in the minority all along.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Credits and Debits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong> <\/span>Whether it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/10\/27\/business\/economy\/in-fed-and-out-many-now-think-inflation-helps.html\">the Fed<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/102206710#.\">the ECB<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/articles\/boj-unexpectedly-eases-policy-1414731873\">the Bank of Japan<\/a> &#8212; central banks everywhere are clamoring for inflation, thinking that it will solve the malaise that is plaguing their respective economies.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Don&#8217;t tell that to the good folks in Florida. More inflation is the last thing they need. According to United Way, nearly half of all households there <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heraldtribune.com\/article\/20141111\/article\/141119948\">don&#8217;t earn enough<\/a> money to cover their basic necessities.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> The situation <a href=\"http:\/\/www.courant.com\/business\/hc-united-way-alice-working-poor-20141116-story.html\">isn&#8217;t much better in Connecticut<\/a>, where fully one in four households there are struggling to meet their basic needs &#8212; despite being above the federal poverty level. Why would they ever want inflation?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> I suppose Fed Chair Janet Yellen is happy to know that, with Thanksgiving here this week, the wholesale price of turkeys is at an all-time high; the birds cost about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.9news.com\/story\/money\/2014\/11\/19\/turkey-prices-going-up\/19261867\/\">10% more<\/a> than last year.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit: <\/strong><\/span>The good news is it looks like most grocery stores will end up <a href=\"http:\/\/bigstory.ap.org\/article\/6236ae06bf9b476680bcaf48a9d4b14b\/turkey-production-down-wholesale-prices\">absorbing the price increase<\/a>. They always seem to do so for turkeys during Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit: <\/strong><\/span>One thing is for certain: All of that central banker inflation talk is putting a damper on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/7-things-retirees-should-do-with-their-20-cost-of-living-increase-2014-10-22\">$20 per month<\/a> cost of living increase Social Security recipients were told they&#8217;re getting next year.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Inflation is taxation without representation. After all, if you earn 3% on a savings account (I know, but just play along), the financial end result is the same whether you pay 100% tax on the interest income with 0% inflation, or zero income taxes with 3% inflation.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit: <\/strong><\/span> Of course, the <em>real<\/em> reason the central banks need inflation is because our debt-based monetary system cannot function without it. If deflation <em>were<\/em> to ever take hold, the <a href=\"http:\/\/goldsilver.com\/news\/james-rickards-preparing-for-a-dollar-doomsday\/\">banking system would implode<\/a>. Psst. Guess what &#8212; it&#8217;s taking hold.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Deflation is gaining the upper hand at the moment because there is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/robert-samuelson-stock-market-turmoil-and-the-global-debt-trap\/2014\/10\/16\/301cf330-5568-11e4-ba4b-f6333e2c0453_story.html\">so much debt on the books<\/a> that the world is increasingly unable to take on more. Almost everyone is tapped out &#8212; which is why commodity prices are falling precipitously at the moment.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Debit:<\/span> <\/strong> Stocks and home prices should be much lower too, but the Fed and other central banks have been propping them up for several years now. As deflation intensifies, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/central-banks-are-at-war-with-deflation-2014-11\">central banks will continue printing<\/a> their currencies at a blistering pace to counteract the effects until hyperinflation occurs.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit: <\/strong><\/span>The math doesn&#8217;t lie, folks &#8212; there is <a href=\"http:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/blogs\/talking-numbers\/here-s-why-the-fed-is-trapped--ron-paul-183607812.html\">no way out<\/a> for the central banks. In either scenario, the current international monetary system is doomed; desperate bankers are only buying time now. How much is the big question. Hedge accordingly.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Debit:<\/span> <\/strong>If I were king, I&#8217;d pick death by deflation because, well &#8230; inflation makes people angry. Just ask the guy who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/local_news\/article\/The-Beefy-Crunch-Burrito-incident-1226571.php\">shot up a Taco Bell<\/a> back in 2011 because they raised the price of their Beefy Crunch burritos more than 50% in a single week. I know.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Can you imagine what might have transpired if that guy knew <a href=\"http:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2014\/04\/taco_bell_secret_ingredients_revealed_meat_is_88_percent_beef.html\">Taco Bell doesn&#8217;t use 100% pure beef<\/a>? <em>Ay caramba!<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Then again, I love Taco Bell&#8217;s less-than-pure-beef meat filling. No, really. And I&#8217;m not the only one. One guy loves their beef so much that he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2054142\/Angry-customer-firebombs-Taco-Bell-Chalupas-little-meat-second-attack-chain.html\">firebombed a Taco Bell<\/a> after he ordered a Chalupa and discovered that the, um, &#8220;chef&#8221; failed to stuff it with enough meat.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit<\/strong>:<\/span> Yeah, yeah &#8230; that&#8217;s yesteryear&#8217;s news too &#8212; but Taco Bell stories never get old. (Especially ones like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.katc.com\/news\/police-foursome-tried-to-take-ohio-taco-bell-art\/\">this<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodfacts.info\/blog\/2006\/08\/25000-stolen-sauce-packets-returned-to.html\">this<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/consumerist.com\/2010\/03\/24\/robbers-hold-up-taco-bell-for-apple-pies\/\">this<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/30728692#.\">this<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wauwatosanow.com\/news\/pewaukee-police-foursome-at-taco-bell-void-of-clothing-a04rcrl-145813495.html\">this<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Frankly, Taco Bell seems to attract more than its fair share of unstable customers. Just a few weeks ago, a woman was viciously assaulted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jrn.com\/kgun9\/news\/Tucson-woman-brutally-attacked-over-missed-Taco-Bell-breakfast-274991081.html\">an angry customer<\/a> who blamed her for missing Taco Bell&#8217;s breakfast menu cutoff. Wow. I guess I&#8217;m going to have to try one of their egg burritos.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>(The Best of)<\/strong><\/span> <strong>By the Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a few more tasty morsels on Taco Bell:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>5600 <\/strong><\/span><\/span>Restaurants in the US.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>11 <\/strong><\/span><\/span>Restaurants in Alaska.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>11 <\/strong><\/span><\/span>Days between visits for the average customer.
