That is a <em>huge<\/em> number indicating a booming economy that&#8217;s firing on all cylinders. Strangely, looking around, it doesn&#8217;t really feel that way. At all.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> You&#8217;d think with such a strong economy that there would be far fewer than 1 in 4 Americans between 25 and 54 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weeklystandard.com\/blogs\/1-4-americans-25-54-not-working_806178.html\">without a job<\/a>. On the other hand, what do I know? Save your snarky email, folks &#8212; that&#8217;s a rhetorical question.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Did you see this? In four short years, Obamacare and expenses related to a companion electronic healthcare records program have cost American taxpayers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2014-09-25\/obamacare-website-costs-top-2-billion-almost-triple-government-estimates\">$73 billion<\/a>. That&#8217;s billion, with a &#8220;b.&#8221; In four years. I know.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> According to Bloomberg, taxpayers have been forced to cough up $2.1 billion just for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2014-09-24\/obamacare-website-costs-exceed-2-billion-study-finds.html\">snake-bitten Obamacare<\/a> website and supporting enrollment system. That&#8217;s nearly three times government estimates. Three times! On Capitol Hill they call that a rounding error.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Not to worry though; Obamacare advocates have a plan to keep cost overruns from becoming even worse. Um &#8230; well, that is, if the latest piece in The Atlantic by Obamacare-architect Ezekiel Emanuel is any indication; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/features\/archive\/2014\/09\/why-i-hope-to-die-at-75\/379329\/\">he wants to die at 75<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> According to Emanuel: <em>&#8220;The deadline forces each of us to ask whether our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/Big-Government\/2014\/09\/22\/die-at-75-emanuel-obamacare-death-cult\">consumption is worth our contribution<\/a>.&#8221;<\/em> Really, Mr. Emanuel? Pathetic. But I digress &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> When it comes to estimating future costs, the federal government&#8217;s incompetence is breathtaking. Take the new headquarters being constructed for the Department of Homeland Security: It was supposed to cost $3.3 billion. It&#8217;s currently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/Newsfront\/headquarters-building-budget-costs\/2014\/09\/19\/id\/595752\/\">$1.5 billion over budget<\/a> &#8212; and 11 years behind schedule.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Hey, it&#8217;s only money, right? After all, it&#8217;s not as if we don&#8217;t have the Fed around to print whatever the government needs. Besides, all that &#8220;money&#8221; being conjured out of thin air is put to good use in other ways too &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/is-the-stock-market-bubble-of-2014-ready-to-burst-2014-09-25\">until this week<\/a>, it has been lifting the stock market to new highs on an almost-weekly basis.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Don&#8217;t think the Bank of Japan hasn&#8217;t noticed: They&#8217;ve bought so many Nikkei equities to keep their ailing economy afloat &#8212; including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/stephenharner\/2014\/09\/25\/whither-japan-stocks-bojs-weak-yen-is-good-orthodoxy-and-direct-buying-supporting-the-market-but-for-how-long\/\">a record number last month<\/a> &#8212; that the value of its portfolio is now equivalent to almost 2% of the entire Japanese stock market. Yeah, <a href=\"http:\/\/moneyweek.com\/bill-bonner-the-japanese-delusion\/\">that&#8217;s going to end well<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> The resulting public delusion from all of this manipulation is why Andy Hoffman warned this week that: <em>&#8220;The <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.milesfranklin.com\/the-headline-that-says-it-all\">stock market is no longer an &#8216;indicator&#8217;<\/a> of anything other than Central bank monetization.&#8221;<\/em> Thankfully, the central banks can&#8217;t fool everyone.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Whether it&#8217;s groceries, stocks, bonds, or commodities, central bank interference in the financial market has so thoroughly corrupted price signals that it&#8217;s now utterly impossible to identify the true value of anything. In fact, some people have become so bamboozled by the chicanery that they believe gold is &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/gold-crashes-and-is-now-tarnished-for-good-2014-09-22\">tarnished forever.<\/a>&#8221; Heh. If they say so.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Mark my words: Eventually, enough people will realize that all of the world&#8217;s paper-based wealth is <a href=\"http:\/\/mises.org\/daily\/6593\/\">a grand illusion<\/a> based on a foundation of empty promises. On that day, the over-inflated markets will implode, and a stampede from financial paper into <em>anything<\/em> tangible will begin &#8212; including food.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Meanwhile, the garbage police is coming to Seattle, where the city council recently authorized fines for city residents who &#8212; get this &#8212; put <a href=\"http:\/\/seattletimes.com\/html\/localnews\/2024604656_citycompost1xml.html\">too much food<\/a> in their garbage can. Unbelievable. The ordinance is intended to help Seattle meet self-imposed composting goals.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit<\/strong>:<\/span> As Franklin Sanders wryly <a href=\"http:\/\/silver-and-gold-prices.goldprice.org\/\">observed<\/a>: <em>&#8220;(The ordinance) passed the city council by a 9-0 vote, which makes one wonder why they haven&#8217;t yet recycled the city council.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Then again, considering that Seattle is the only city in America that has a sitting councilwoman who is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/177389\/socialist-wins-seattle\">a self-proclaimed socialist<\/a> <em>and<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roadsideamerica.com\/story\/9056\">a streetside statue<\/a> of the tyrannical communist mass-murderer Vladimir Lenin &#8212; it&#8217;s a good bet that unbridled liberty won&#8217;t be returning to the Emerald City any time soon.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit<\/strong>: <\/span>The people get the government they deserve. Hopefully, there will come a day when enough red-blooded Americans finally rise up and say enough is enough &#8212; at least when it comes to politicians who dictate how we must run the most basic aspects of our everyday lives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Commit these recycling facts to memory. That way, when you get stopped by the nanny-state&#8217;s recycling police, you can prove that, when it comes to being green, Kermit the Frog has nothing on you!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">6<\/span> <\/strong><\/span><\/span>Months it takes the average orange peel to decompose.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>450<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Years required for Styrofoam to decompose.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>5 <\/strong><\/span><\/span>Percentage of all plastics produced in the US that are recycled by Americans each year.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>22 <\/strong><\/span><\/span>Percentage of all glass in the US that is recycled.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">1<\/span> <\/strong><\/span><\/span>Number of recycled glass bottles required to save enough electricity to run a 100-Watt bulb for four hours.
