This is news?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Frankly, the real American dream was lost a long time ago. It started when Americans began discounting the importance of self-reliance and agreed to sacrifice liberty for government-provided &#8220;security&#8221; and dubious promises of cradle-to-grave protection.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Let&#8217;s face it; the United States of America is not what it used to be, folks &#8212; and the nation continues to be destroyed from within by a coalition of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/articles\/2014\/07\/06\/crony_capitalism_infects_washington_123219.html\">crony capitalists<\/a> and advocates of the big-government <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefiscaltimes.com\/Columns\/2013\/11\/18\/How-Our-Sprawling-Nanny-State-Putting-Parents-Out-Work\">nanny state<\/a> on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> In their world, up is down and black is white. For example, they are insisting that &#8220;immigration reform&#8221; is essential because businesses <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2014\/07\/11\/news\/companies\/immigration-washington\/\">can&#8217;t find enough<\/a> unskilled workers &#8212; even though the labor participation rate is at a 36-year low. Huh?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Here&#8217;s an idea: If US businesses are having trouble attracting employees, they can offer higher wages &#8212; and our politicians can eliminate the countless <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2014-04-18\/18-stats-prove-government-dependence-has-reached-epidemic-levels\">government handouts<\/a> that currently permit otherwise able-bodied Americans to survive indefinitely without working.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Believe it or not, there was a time &#8212; before the US officially became a banana republic &#8212; when the federal government was honest enough to admit that uncontrolled illegal immigration only served to further <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1988\/03\/20\/us\/illegal-aliens-depress-wages-for-some-in-us.html\">depress US wages<\/a> for unskilled workers and those with low-paying jobs. Not anymore.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Today, the <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2013\/06\/18\/news\/economy\/immigration-reform\/\">White House says<\/a> giving amnesty to millions of unskilled illegal immigrants would &#8220;strengthen the middle class.&#8221; If you believe that, you also believe that sweet is sour, and blue is red.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> It&#8217;s not just the Executive branch; the Legislative branch is no better. Using the CBO&#8217;s twisted calculations, so-called &#8220;immigration reform&#8221; will reduce deficits by almost $1 trillion over the next two decades. Only in Utopia, folks.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Yes, that&#8217;s the same CBO that claimed Obamacare would miraculously <em>reduce<\/em> the federal deficit by $120 billion &#8212; despite $100-million websites and the addition of an enormous government bureaucracy. I know. Even so, that <del><\/del>estimate <a href=\"http:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/guybenson\/2014\/06\/05\/cbo-by-the-way-we-can-no-longer-score-obamacares-fiscal-impact-n1847785\">persuaded fence-sitters<\/a> in Congress to ultimately vote for the disastrous bill.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> For what it&#8217;s worth, the CBO, with its tail between its legs, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/stories\/2013\/10\/10\/rumor-check-obamacare-website-might-be-glitchy-but-it-didnt-cost-634-million\/\">quietly rescinded<\/a> their ridiculous Obamacare claim earlier this year. Too bad the damage is done.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Did you see this? If you include liquids derived from natural gas, Saudi Arabia is no long the world&#8217;s biggest oil producer. Nope. That honor now belongs to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2014-07-04\/u-s-seen-as-biggest-oil-producer-after-overtaking-saudi.html\">the United States<\/a>. You&#8217;d never know it though with gasoline prices still at a six-year high.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Speaking of oil &#8230; Another nail was hammered into the petrodollar&#8217;s coffin last week when the CEO for the second-largest oil producer in Europe said he believes &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2014-07-05\/ceo-one-worlds-largest-energy-major-sees-no-reason-petrodollar\">there is no reason<\/a> to pay for oil in dollars&#8221; anymore.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Credit:<\/strong><\/span> Meanwhile, the French finance minister took his own shot at the US dollar when he called for &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/883e7912-0513-11e4-b098-00144feab7de.html?siteedition=intl#axzz36mwtc5oj\">rebalancing<\/a>&#8221; the currencies used for global payments. The drumbeats are getting louder, folks.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> How bad is the economy? Paul Craig Roberts, who was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury under Ronald Reagan, says that if the US calculated inflation as it did in 1980 (i.e., honestly), last quarter&#8217;s GDP would officially be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paulcraigroberts.org\/2014\/07\/08\/deteriorating-economic-outlook\/\">negative 8.5%<\/a> &#8212; not the reported contraction of 2.9%.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Of course, big-government <del>comedians<\/del> economists understand that a massive nanny state depends on politicians who lack fiscal discipline, which is why Paul Krugman is still <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/07\/07\/opinion\/paul-krugman-conservative-delusions-about-inflation.html?_r=0\">trying to convince people<\/a> that the Fed&#8217;s unrestrained money printing hasn&#8217;t resulted in any significant inflation. Apparently Paul no longer shops for groceries, gasoline, and other necessities.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Thankfully, there <em>are<\/em> a growing number of open-eyed economists and financial analysts who now see the writing on the wall: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2013-07-12\/what-liquidity-trap-and-why-bernanke-caught-it\">the Fed is trapped<\/a> and we&#8217;ve pushed our flawed debt-based monetary system about as far as it can go.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Debit:<\/strong><\/span> Unfortunately for all of us, short of a sustained, but very unlikely, bout of spectacular growth &#8212; or a complete reset of the international monetary system &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/charlesbiderman.com\/2014\/06\/23\/global-rates-collapse-whos-is-behind-this-2\/\">the only way out<\/a> is via hyperinflation. The only question is the timing. Prepare accordingly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s almost time to pay the piper. Here&#8217;s why the US dollar &#8212; and our artificially-high standard of living &#8212; will soon be a thing of the past:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>$17.59 trillion<\/strong><\/span><\/span> The US National Debt.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>$122 trillion<\/strong><\/span><\/span> US unfunded liabilities (i.e., promised payouts for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other entitlements.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>$604 billion<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Money budgeted for national defense.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>$1.73 trillion<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Combined annual Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security expenditures.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>$249 billion<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Money budgeted for government pensions.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>$226 billion<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Current annual interest payment on the National Debt.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>0.25%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Current federal funds rate established by the Fed.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>20%<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Peak federal funds rate imposed by the Fed in June 1980 during their campaign to arrest high inflation.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>$3.52 trillion<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Approximate annual interest payment on the current National Debt if rates were raised to 20%.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><strong>$3.52 trillion<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Approximate federal spending to date for the current fiscal year. I&#8217;ve visited 45 states during my lifetime &#8212; with only Wisconsin, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho and Alaska to go. Anyway, last week&#8217;s question came about because I was curious how much of America my readers have seen. Well &#8230; almost 500 people answered and it turns out that almost half can lay claim to setting foot in at least 21 of the 50 US states &#8212; and 1 in every 25 have hit all 50 states!
